Nah, I don't think the Dylan hate is based on the fact that he's a needy horny teenager or that the character is misunderstood.
The Dylan hate is based on the fact that the dev is spending too much time on a character that you seem to agree is a run of the mill, cut-and-paste, carbon copy pastiche.
L&P delivers such a paltry amount of story progression every 4-6 months that spending any of it focused on a cardboard cut out is just stupid.

Have Zero issues the basics of what you state here. That on its own would have been fine. L&P's Issues with Dylan are more than this. I have given my observations on how Dylan could have avoided the hate. I have been hoping that his shenanigan's are in the past. His creativity with Donuts is probably more understood by those who have visited the Fan Arts.

Let me say, I don't hate Dylan, OK? I've said numerous times, this is a work of fiction/fantasy & I don't "hate" fictional characters, however much time & concentration I may invest in a particular story. Dylan is an irritant, like an itch you can't scratch. He's everywhere & has a habit of popping up at inopportune times for those who don't relish seeing him that much.
Yes, all teenage guys can be needy but they don't all channel this into lusting after their own mothers. If we have to accept incest as a major element of the VN (& we know we do), then a little less of Dylan would be nice. Maybe it's an age thing? People in my era didn't discuss incest, which was totally taboo. They often left school at 15 & had to get a job & grow up fast, very fast, with no time to indulge their 'neediness.' This, at a time when getting a girl of your own age pregnant meant you got married at 16, (a constant fear of lads of "my generation" [ref. The Who]). All this was at the height of the so-called "permissive society." Can you begin to see why Dylan doesn't appeal?
Far from not understanding simple human behaviour, many of us know it only too well. I've seen fashions change many times & there are fashions in porn, as with everything else. Incest is in favour at present & I find I just have to live with this. I don't presume to judge what others find a turn-on & certainly don't indulge in the kink-shaming that occassionally crops up but I find that a little of Dylan goes a long way.

For me, and I don't hide the fact that I'm not part of Team Dylan, Dylan has two main roles.
He is Sophia's son, he is there to highlight the devoted role of mother who does everything for her children, to make them grow as well as possible. Even if at times, this role of mother is exercised blindly. In that sense, Ellie has the same role.
On the other hand, Sophia already has unmet sexual desires and needs. His desire increases as the days go by. Dylan is not the man she wants, but someone who only stirs up her growing urges. Yes of course, he is there for the incestuous side. But Sophia doesn't want him like a man. Not in the same way she might desire Sam, with whom she shares common tastes.
Ellie on the other hand is there to allow Sophia to discover the lesbian side that lies dormant in her. The mother-daughter relationship fades to give way to the wave of desire and pleasure they discover.
