Yup. If you go and look at the support curves by patrons, shortly after the "fire" update was released DPC got noticed. It took a bit of time, but his support curve (and the release of his next game) just takes off. Without the strong emotional reaction and the attention if brought, that would not have happened.Just played it, and while it did affect me emotionally, intellectually I can also recognise how manipulative the writing is. DrPinkcake Leah'd all his players. It's a shame because I think it would have been a much better story and game without the fire. The tensions between the love interests should have been allowed to reach their own conclusions without bringing in the "if you had to choose one of your children from a fire" bullshit.
Of course the "customer base" for these games has become much more sophisticated. Now killing a main LI without cause usually results in a heavy backlash. But DPC got there first, and the whole "choices have consequences" meme and his fan boys protected him.
