I'm curious, besides the ability to fast forward though all the dialog and to save whenever you like, what other functionality does using Ren'py give?

I'm also curious if people the people who prefer Ren'py used to played JRPG style games in the past?
Easier to play the game with only one hand. ;)

RPG Maker is made for Role-Paying Games, yet many porn devs use it to make low-interactivity games, because it doesn't require any coding. And at the end of the day you have a Visual Novel with lots of stupid walking between events.
Ren'Py cuts all this crap and gives you the meat of the game, faster and lighter.

Yeah, It's quite obvious rpgmaker = rpg, even if you want to make a rpg, you can do it with Renpy too, like KoD from Hreinn Games. But if your game is a VN there is no point in using rpgmaker, unless you don't know how to use other VN focused engines.
Linear walking simulators aren't fun, just a waste of time between locations.

Wow... I usually don't have the patience for RPGM games, but the story is done incredibly well and it's easy to play and enjoy.

RPG Maker is made for Role-Paying Games...
I am not arguing with your (and others) point of view, as it's your right to believe what you want.

The key point of the term Role-Paying Game is the word Role, and in erotic games created in both RPGMaker and Ren'py the role of main character(s) is generally to (eventually) be the participant in one or more sexual activities. There is no rule that states a RPG has to have elements like Combat within them, it just happens that almost all non-erotic RPG's do because that is the role type the main character(s) is generally playing.)

@greyelf , I never said the combat is what makes a game an RPG. Nor am I arguing game genres. This game, like many other Patreon projects, is a Visual Novel and as such uses none of RPG Maker's core functionality. It can easily be made in Ren'Py, cleaner and simpler. If I'm not mistaken some guy did just that a few weeks ago.

Is there a way to skip texts faster? I've found holding the mouse will increase text speed but wondering if there is a faster way or setting i could change for the left mouse button hold

If you don't mind erroneously choosing the top option in choices (and cursing because you didn't save and have to do it all again knowing you'll make the same mistake again and again): keep hammering the space bar or the {enter} key. Sometimes the maker is nice enough to code the {shift} or {ctrl} key to skip text.

Sorry, but it does.
a. It uses the map editor to generate the visual areas the player travels through and interacts with others in. I understand some players may not like this, but maybe the developer does and achieving the same effect within DAZ Studio would of required a lot more effort.

b. It uses the event editor to control when activities occur, and what happens during those activities.

It can easily be made in Ren'Py, cleaner and simpler.
While this may be true, that would also require the developer to learn how to program in Python and how to use the Ren'py Framework, and both of those activities are harder for a non-programmer than learning how to use RPGMaker's point and click interface.

If I'm not mistaken some guy did just that a few weeks ago.
To be more precise, that programmer created a custom tool that can convert a (this) RPGMaker based game into a Ren'py based one. They then uploaded the Ren'py based game here, along with an explanation of why a number of scenes don't include a background image due to the fact that the original developer of the game hadn't generated such images because they were relying on RPGMaker to do that for them.

I understand that some people don't like playing RPG like games and the reasons they may feel that way, what I don't understand is the recent insistence by (some of) those people that these games be made using only Ren'py. Surely there are enough games being produced that there is enough room for developers to use whatever engine they either prefer or feel more comfortable using.

@greyelf , well of course it uses some functions, but almost none of the stuff RPG Maker is made for. It's like using Photoshop to write text. Yes, you can do it, but a simple Notepad will do it faster, easier and more accessible. And what the author can and cannot do is no concern of mine. An user asked why so many people ask for Ren'Py version and I answered.

I think @stoper is right. RPGM can be great if the game uses the engine for you doing what feels like meaningful quests and things you need to do. But when it only works to simulate walking between scenes and quests that has to no point, you could have easier done it with renpy. Even without the background, the RenPy remake of this is so much more playable.
