Good morning!
This week was a wild one. One of the scenes I worked on this week was one I've been glancing at as I came closer and closer to it. Mainly because the set I had to build for this is part of one of the downtown areas. Not only this, but one of the biggest critiques I got from chapter 1 was how sweat/water drops looked on the models. So, I took this to the whiteboard and really went to work on perfecting this. So needless to say, I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome this time around and I can breathe easy now that this large scene is marked done.
I also worked on coding. Trying to be careful this update doesn't break old saves. Meaning the dismantling of the old music code I have to treat delicately since it contains persistent variables. So far, my old saves seem to be working. But we'll see how it goes when CH3 goes into beta. I also got the new main menu working. Up until last week, it was mostly a concept for me as I had to think of a way to make it work. It broke itself a few times, but happy to say that's been marked off my list. I mean...yeah it's just a video file, but there is some code involved to make it function how I envisioned it.
This week, I completed 363 story renders placing chapter 3 at 2,519 story renders so far. Last week I set a goal for myself that I'd try to complete 3 scenes this week, and unfortunately, I only completed 2 of the 3. I just wanted to be transparent about that. So, currently, there are only 4 scenes that remain. Also, Chapter 3 alone is adding 3GB in its current state. Music, a few animations, and 4 scenes worth of content haven't been added yet. I save all final images in WEBP format and videos in WEBM, so I'm compressing as much as possible. The update may be around 3.5GB and Artemis with all three chapters will be around 7.6GB total. When I get into the beta phase, I'll look into compressed versions, just be warned this will impact overall quality. Additionally, as I run Artemis, it takes a few seconds after starting the EXE before the game actually starts. So, I've added a splash screen to pop up, so you guys know the game is starting up. The final image may change.
Well, I'm going to grab another cup of coffee and get back to development.
Have yourselves a wonderful week and Happy Holidays!
