I understand that with complex problems but mine were just simple problems or lack of information, and of course I've search this thread for answers but turns out that people were this unhelpful since this whole thread begin (So there wasn't a time when they at least tried), the guides are also made with spite in mind, hell even the

The AA2 community has a problem with toxicity and hate towards beginners for sure
I'm a beginner to this game myself. I could not recognize an abnormal level of hate. However it is the kind of atmosphere you would expect in more elitist circles. So in the respect that if you're really courteous and ask concise questions and work a lot on the bit of info you're given and then come back after your efforts, the community is nice enough. However I think for common laypersons this is not sufficiently kind.

I remember hanging around places where the slur help vampire was common. As in, asking for help then asking for help again was enough to get libeled by the community. Now that was considerably more toxic and yet people still lived with it.

I make no excuses for that behavior, no. This is a porn forum and people wanna see curves and play games one-handedly. So advice has got to be accessible when it can be. Still, we should all adults here so sometimes people are busy and not confident enough in how much time they spent and can spend in the moment to give you your advice as you need it.

Complaining about how the "community" is not newbie friendly and the guides are all confusing shit is fine and all, but it reminds me of the type 1 complaint. Which is: "why doesn't someone make AA2Mini with all the mods already pre-installed". It's easy to say "it should be that way", but it ain't nearly as easy to actually achieve what you want.
I used to write the guide for installing the game before AA2Mini was a thing. Was a pretty newbie friendly guide, I guess, since tech support questions never happened. It wasn't all that fun to actually do it, though, that's why I stopped doing it once mini released. There's no reward. That's also why I ignore many questions that aren't potentially interesting to me or take effort to figure out.

It really doesn't help that over the past few years 99% of support questions related to this game stem from people not even reading the instructions on the download page. Such as "why launcher freeze?", so even when people have a legitimate issue with ppexm64 you first have to treat them like a retard because you can't assume they do. I also don't think people in this thread in particular deserve to be called unhelpful, since the guides, the game release itself (AA2Mini PPX), the utilities like AAU etc all originate from somewhere else. It's not like this place is a congregation of seasoned AA2 experts who have all the knowledge and resources.
You may call me unhelpful though, I am proud of it.

I based my opinion in the interactions I had + What I've seen when searching in this thread for the problems I had (Of course, problems I resolved myself since this community wasn't kind to the other people as well)

Who knows, perhaps If I go comment by comment forum page 1 I will see some positive results but I won't do that, but Jesus christ not even telling me how to chose a PC ? C'mon... how complex or "tired" you have to be to not even do that, there no defense for this community and my asumtion are right to the point. If you have a question/problem you either get 1. A link to a guide(nothing to do with your problem) 2. A pointless answer or a good answer that will make sense only if you already knew how to resolve the problems yourself.

I didn't fully fix the game, I still have problems with it, for example I can't make it have other resolutions than 1920x1080p, I have a 1440p monitor so would be cool to have 1440p resolution and to play in fullscreen so I've searched here for a solutions (NOTE: I will learn how to do that myself, I don't want any help from this community anymore, not like I will get any anyway):

1705506369817.png Right under this conversation it was this:
1705506524264.png
(I already explained the "S" thing, and this is a different person who got the same half-answerd treatment. just pointless all around)

I don't know how someone can defend this community in any way, not everyone is bad but the majority absolutely is, I know there are some useful answers in here but I simply couldn't find any.

While I was playing the game I was thinking "This game is pretty good why aren't more people playing it and why isn't there an AA3? It been 10 years already"

But after I interacted with the community I realised that there will never be an AA3 simply because there is no fanbase to it, Almost all the new player quit and never speak again about this game (Hell, I discovered this game by accident while searching on the site)

The majority quit when they can't get the game to work or hit a major bug, others more stubborn will try to fix the bugs and ask for help and will be hit with the special (Which will make them want to quit just by seeing it) or given pointless answers (Many of the people who got those answer are never seen in this thread again, which show they didn't want to push it further and quit) what remains of the fanbase at the end is just a bunch of frustrated angry people.

And those people definitely don't deserve a new game.

MachoGuy Your posts slowly devolve into subtle attacks on the AA community on F95Zone. If you think the community here is "toxic", talk to the moderators about it - ultimately, they are the curators of this forum; unless you, for some reason, think they are in cahoots somehow - in which case, I am mystified as to why you would keep hanging around such "toxicity". All we can wish you is good luck with other AA communities - the one on F95 is far from the only one and most certainly nowhere near the largest.

Or because the developer put their chips on 3D realism afterwards instead, lost that bet and got shut down last year. Please do your own research before making slanderous claims just to fit your narrative.

AA2 is considered by Illusion fans to be their "peak" in terms of game development when it comes to mechanics and interactivity. How you reached the conclusion that the game has "no fanbase" from that - and by having experienced one unofficial community, no less, not to mention one that does not even dabble in modding the game - is simply baffling. "If you have seen one of them - you have seen them all"? Seriously?

If you want to be fair in your evaluation - please do bother to "go comment by comment forum page 1 to see some positive results", because if you do not - you are not. What you are at that point is what you accuse the people here of being - toxic and unhelpful. Not to mention lazy.

I'm not only talking about F95zone community, When we were talking about guides someone said "Now is the guide the best worded? No, but that's because the writer got tired of everyone's shit IIRC" + the YouTube videos addressing the new players as idiots, So the problem is beyond F95. BUT, I joined a discord for AA2 community and people there are A LOT more helpful (And I mean A LOT, Mfs really have conversations about a problem until they solve it, not a half hint "piss off already, read another guide or something" answer made me tear up a little) so maybe this might be F95zone only problem.

I can't talk with the mods about it because it not against the rules to be toxic and unhelpful of course, so everyone in here is in thier rights to be an asshole, but that dosen't mean I can't call them out on being one.

I already decided to stop hanging around here since I replied to the chime comment, right now I'm just defending the points I made there since people quote my comments but will stop doing that also after this comment.

"Or because the developer put their chips on 3D realism afterwards instead, lost that bet and got shut down last year. Please do your own research before making slanderous claims just to fit your narrative."

AA2 came out in 2014, they had PLENTY of time to make another game or at least hint at a new one before closing (Especially when it regarded as their "peak") even when they were focusing on 3D realism, I guess they also put all their chips on 3D realism for a reason.

AA2 is considered by Illusion fans to be their "peak" in terms of game development when it comes to mechanics and interactivity. How you reached the conclusion that the game has "no fanbase" from that

I reached the conclusion that there is no fanbase left to this game because

1. Is very inactive. It's an old game so that's logic, but if we take all the troubleshoot away. from everywhere I mean, not just F95zone. How active it is or even was when it first came out? That's right. barely anyone at all. Funny enough, the bugs are keeping this game alive (Killed the company tho)

2. It very hard to find anything about this game. while I was googling to solve my problems most of the time I found the github page and some question on steam and reddit and that's it. I know there should be a big 4chan community but I couldn't find that. I found the discord link in here even tho people are a lot more nicer there the community isn't that much active either. they talk about once a month.

3. I simply never heard of it before. This dosen't mean mutch without context but I knew about Illusion and I've played koikatsu before and asked if there is a game similar to this were you can play female and nobody answered AA2, more than that I've searched for games were you can play as a voyeur and watch other people doing it. Nobody mentions AA2 anywhere and remeber what you said "AA2 is considered by Illusion fans to be their "peak" in terms of game development when it comes to mechanics and interactivity. " that means that there aren't that many fans out there.

- and by having experienced one unofficial community, no less, not to mention one that does not even dabble in modding the game - is simply baffling. "If you have seen one of them - you have seen them all"? Seriously?

F95zone is the biggest unofficial community for H-games out there, if there still was an active fanbase this were you will meet most of the players regardless if they are into mods. But you might actually be right since again, coming back to my complains: people on here are mostly assholes so I can't blame them for not being active here (Hell, I won't be after this comment) but please for the sake of the argument and for the other people post the links to the more active communities so people can experience what the true AA2 community is like, not this toxic place.

If you want to be fair in your evaluation - please do bother to "go comment by comment forum page 1 to see some positive results", because if you do not - you are not. What you are at that point is what you accuse the people here of being - toxic and unhelpful. Not to mention lazy.

I ain't reading allat. Again, I accuse people of being toxic and unhelpful from my own experience + the experiences i saw others had with the same problem I did (and the outside of f95zone stuff) it for the readers to decided who is in the right, maybe I'm in the wrong here and I'm blind of how helpful and untoxic everyone was to me and the others who knows...

But there is a fact here, 27 out of 211 pages mention the word "guide"
1705520600743.png
20 comments per page that means 540 comments had the word "guide" or were related to a comment with the word guide in it, Do you think people would have needed a guide so much if they will get proper help and other on were were willing to offer it instead of redirecting them to ? (or a good guide, man that thing sucks ass)

I will leave you all to it, I will still enjoy the game of course but I can't be part of this toxic, frustrated and unhelpful community.

For anyone new reading this: hang in there buddy and for ever.

The developer didn't shut down, the brand "Illusion" got shut down. Illusion was not an independent company, it was just one of many brands under the parent company.. the name of which I have forgotten. But in any case, they are still there and the developer formerly known as Illusion is now operating under a new name (illgames I think).
Although either way I wouldn't expect a new AA2, because it barely sold any copies compared to games like Koikatsu. Illusion was a shovelware developer, AA2 and AA are anomalies as far as their catalogue goes.

Yes, that is correct - apologies for the confusion. I did not consider I-One the developer of games released under the Illusion brand. Similar to how my mind refuses to credit Alphabet as the creator of anything coming out of Google - "owner of rights to the IP", maybe? Either way, when I used the word "developer" - I was referring to the "Illusion" brand the games were released under, and only them.

they are still there and the developer formerly known as Illusion is now operating under a new name
It has been suspected AND asked - precisely because of the "Illgames" name -, and at the time Illusion made a post on their official Twitter that they are not related to Illgames in any way. Whether they lied or misled people is, of course, unknown to those not privy to all the business/bureaucratic minutiae of that particular case, but the fact remains that their "official claim" was "we are not them" in no uncertain terms. If there is proof of the opposite - I would very much appreciate being pointed to it.

it barely sold any copies compared to games like Koikatsu.
Oh? I did not know that. Even worse, my knowledge on Koikatsu is limited to how long it takes to load :HideThePain:, how empty it is as a "game", and how it is more active/popular in terms of modding and, no surprise there, making character models for other games. How bad did AA2 do?

either way I wouldn't expect a new AA2
Neither would I.

AA2 and AA are anomalies as far as their catalogue goes.
What do you mean by this they made another series Artifical Girl before it that was pretty similar in style and until they released Honey Select they had a good balance between "realistic" and anime-style games.

Artificial Girl was shovelware. I'm not talking about the art style, I'm talking about the actual "game". AA2 and to a lesser extent AA had substantial game to them which is anomalous for Illusion. I don't remember if I played the original AG but I did play 2 and 3 - both of those were "wow it's nothing!" when it comes to the game part. That's the case for most of their games, the focal point is always H content. Speaking of art, AA and AA2 are not of the same art style either. AA is styled after School Mate 2 and AA2 is styled after School Mate. Most people hated the art style change from AA to AA2 back in the day.

I don't know exactly how bad AA2 did on sales, but it sold worse relative to their subsequent games. I think the biggest flaw, though, was that it was really expensive to expand it to monetize it further. Each personality had like a million lines, that's a lot of voice acting expense and there wasn't enough of a userbase around to buy those expansions.
Also these Japanese H-game companies are trying to hide their identity like batman. I wouldn't even know that Illusion was a brand of IONE-P if a Japanese person didn't tell me as much. Anyways I can't prove beyond shadow of a doubt that illgames is Illusion because that information would be available in Japanese and I don't think I'm adequately qualified to scour their corporate registries and such to put 1+1 together.

I'd say comparing Koikatsu and AA2 sales isn't really fair. Since AA2 was crippled by being only sold in Japan, while Koikatsu greatly benefited from being available in all wolrldwide on Steam.

F95zone is the biggest unofficial community for H-games out there,
Collectively "H-Games" - perhaps, but that does not automatically make it the biggest for any one specific game without comparing it to other communities of the same game individually, otherwise it is naught but apples to oranges.

it not against the rules to be toxic
What are you talking about? Toxicity is a direct violation of General rule 1, period. Being unhelpful - yeah, not "against the rules", but here is one other factor: people often come back when the advice they were given was unhelpful to ask for further advice, but rarely does anyone bother coming back with a "thank you, that worked for me" if that same advice helped - that results in something known as "survival bias". The playing field is thus heavily skewed, which I see as a problem unless the player is not interested in fair play, to begin with.

they had PLENTY of time to make another game or at least hint at a new one before closing
Exactly - and they DID make PLENTY of games before closing. The catch: what they made barely qualifies as more than what I would call an "interactive gallery". There was hardly any "game" in their games.

How active it is or even was when it first came out? That's right. barely anyone at all.
I am not going to argue that you may be more knowledgeable about that period of time than I am - by the time I discovered this game, AAU developers started phasing PP2 out in favor of PPX. I have no experience whatsoever with whatever shamanic rituals were required to play the original AA2 without issues "when it first came out".

I ain't reading allat. Again, I accuse people of being toxic and unhelpful from my own experience + the experiences i saw others had with the same problem I did
This is precisely what I was referring to when I mentioned the difference between "useless" and "useless for you". You now know what "confirmation bias" means.

But there is a fact here, 27 out of 211 pages mention the word "guide"
Here is another fact: OP has a spoiler conveniently named "Installation" and yet people come all the time asking why their game is ridiculously slow. Nevermind the Other Sources spoiler - I always thought the M.I.G. link belonged to OP in a visible form (since I downloaded the Mini myself back in the day - I was on the other side) -, but they blatantly ignore the instructions whose raison d'etre is to steer them clear of those issues, and some feel insulted when they come asking for help and get a "why did you ignore the instruction manual?" in return.

P.S. My personal stance on helping people around here is rather simple: I am willing to work on your problem with you, not for you.

Oh boy, Illusion. I don't think it's too far to say that Illusion fans have some parallels with Star Wars fans. Mainly, they're fans who hate what the IP and product has become so they're bitter. Secondarily, there's some favoritism over AA2 / Koikatsu / Honey Select 2 (compare to Star Wars trilogies) depending on what your desired balance lands between gameplay and hot babe design. As a person who played much of the above, I say going for AA2 and Honey Select 2 but skipping Koikatsu is a happy medium of exposure, with Koikatsu itself being a shallow compromise.

Helpful advice for MachoGuy: if you're going to post huge forum screenshots please be kind enough to spoiler them. However you can just use normal quotes, those elegantly spoiler themselves. Plus they link back to their original post and thus surrounding context.

I've reinstalled the game for the 4th or 5th time, everything works perfectly, but now the "AA2QtEdit" won't open. Anyone else has had this problem?
Of course, it's the latest version and the other two .exes work well. I thought it could be something related to firewall/antivirus but I've also checked that out.

Edit: it's like the .exe is decorative, no process shows on task manager.
Ok, so replying to my own comment, I realized I was using an AA2QtEdit launcher that was not compatible with my computer, I downloaded instead. It's something I must have done before, since I have used AA2QtEdit not too long ago but I completely forgot this time.

99% of support questions related to this game stem from people not even reading the instructions on the download page. Such as "why launcher freeze?"
Thanks!!

For informative (but mostly curiosity satiety) purposes: are you running a pre-10 Windows OS, then? I assume that because the next QtEdit version after 1.8.4 is v2, and it seems to have abandoned pre-Win10 support, so you had to downgrade...correct?

The sales issue can be mostly relegated to the fact that it was a physical only game. You either had to fly to Japan and go to an R-18 store to grab the disks or get it shipped if you wanted to purchase a copy as a foreigner.

EDIT: IIRC Japanese residents also had the option of buying it online off the Illusion site or DMM and getting it shipped that way.

In case you were interested, AA2 pre-PP2/PPX was a 25gb game in 2014. Playing the vanilla game was easy enough, just set your computer Locale to Japanese or use Locale Emulator. The game was made for and ran excellently natively on XP/Vista/7.

Playing modded was when things start getting complicated, with the user having to juggle about ~150 different files with nonsensical names like "jg2el02_00_04". This is without getting into editing the separate text files that each mod came with to dial things in. Running it translated was another whole thing, with you either running a modded AA2Play.exe with a translation injector (and the relevant subtitle files and dictionaries) or running a separate translation loader on the side. AAU actually uses the same (or almost the same) injector, just drastically updated and built-in.

EDIT: Honestly, what the PP2/PPX and AAU teams did for the game might as well be modern day wizardry with just how accessible and compact they were able to get everything from what it was originally.
