is there an eye icon somewhere under where the gold used to be? there was a bug in 0.4.2 where the menu disappeared if you lost the training fight but it's fixed in this version

Did you buy any of the demon spell books from Bairn/Cerea in the previous update? Sounds like you probably didn't, otherwise that option should be there.

There's now a fix in the OP, download it and apply it, it should allow you to continue the game.
