You are not alone. I think harems are over done and getting boring now.

I have numerous saves for this one but the only group I have and the only group i'll ever have is Heidi and Athena. It was my first ever playthrough and I didn't want to break them up but really wanted Athena.

The rest are saves of solo runs.

Since playing certain routes, Val has jumped to the top of my list and is my "main" save.
In my opinion harems ruin games, I'm sure that's an unpopular opinion but if the LI all shrug and agree to share the MC in a college/school setting game I just find it ridiculously contrived and simplistic. There's no logical reason for them to all decide the MC is the "ONE". If the character was a bit older, had a well-paying job (was rich), was an experienced and fantastic lover, and was decently endowed it would at least enter the realm of possibility. But instead the fantasy is that a man-child with no money, no skills, who is struggling to survive college is somehow the best option for not just one partner but 2, 3, or 4 partners. There's no jealousy and everyone is "Julie Andrewsing" their way through life. Makes me take the game less seriously, can't help it.

And it ruins characters for me. I was all team Moira (it's well established I have a thing for redheads) but knowing that she's also someone who could easily throw logic out the window and share the idiot boy made her less interesting to me. I am now more interested in Val, she is not only mysterious (and attractive) but broken like the MC.

I know that's all on me and my perceptions, just can't help it if I prefer strongly written monogamous relationships. I am someone who will play through a game multiple times to see how different each relationship makes the game. But I won't bother with a harem path.

I agree with your whole post but it's funny, the part I put in bold describes the MC of Mid Life Crisis perfectly. That game is one of the few that I can sort of suspend my disbelief about harems being ridiculous since the MC is such a likable, funny and kind person so I can kind of buy it that he has a bunch of women all interested in him.

I'm surprised that you like Val so much since I remember her being one of the characters you weren't so sure about at first but I think it's a good example about how well written and developed as a character she is.

I agree completely, i've said for a while that harems look ridiculous and I stand by that.

I've seen a few games where they were done well but that's like 3 or 4 games out of hundreds with harems.

I can see throuples work, i've seen enough of them IRL to know they aren't easy to maintaint but can be quite fulfilling to the right people.

Of course that does lead me to the only problem i've found with this games solo routes. With how close Heidi and Athena are, I can't honestly see them dropping each other for a guy they just met but I guess that's where game logic comes in. That's more a me issue and my need for things to make sense which harems never will.

I was just thinking last night that I feel the same way about MLC. I don't know why...but it just seems more believable for some reason.

I think it's just the way the MC is written. I've said it before but I think the MC of that game is probably my favorite MC out of all the Adult VN's I have played. He is just such a likable and charming character.

I think the whole harem aspect of that game is a bit more believable because it's also a lot more gradual and everyone is slowly getting used to each other along with the gradual "corruption" of the MC's wife in that game.

I haven't played the harem route from this game, mainly because I'm not that into harems and also because I really don't like Heidi at all and while Sadie seems nice I find her kind of boring.

The thing I'm most interested in is how the game handles the relationship with Heidi and Athena if you are on the Athena solo path which I have a save for just out of curiosity.

Agreed. MC is written very well. I also like how the women fawn over the MC, but not in a nauseating way like in many other harem games.

This game handles the mini-harem well, so far, IMO. For me, it was a no-brainer, because I absolutely adore Heidi, Athena, Moira, and Sadie. Each of them are like women I have dated in real life, minus the lesbian stuff. I think I've only dated on woman who enjoyed another woman's company.

Specifically about Sadie, I'm thinking maybe she'll start to open up more and be more fun as things progress. Mostly, I just like her model. I've seen it used in a few other games and I'm just always crushing on her.

Unfortunately MLC fails because the MC is a spectacularly unattractive person, physically (besides his magical dick of largeness +2). Which begs the question, for those who have just met him and know nothing about him, what is the attraction?

Val is interesting, I expect her to betray the MC, I don't believe her sob story nor do I believe she is really in love with the MC. She seems like someone who is trying to get close to the MC for a non-innocent reason. That's why I like her character. That and the fact that she seems to be one of the only ones who aren't part of MASH HAMS situation.

I can see a throuple like Heidi/Athena/MC, a situation where an established relationship welcomes in one more person. But the widening of the whole relationship to where it includes all but two LI makes it pure fantasy. The harem is pure porn logic and it is of no interest to me, I like romance of a more monogamous nature.

Antiharem people are the same ones who like cuckold , sharing, ntr games but they love female protagonist , brainless slutty women, that's ridiculous.
While I disagree with both MrFriendly and Ava regarding Harem games this is one of the dumber posts I've read here for a while and that's saying something......

I do agree with this aspect and have commented on it before. I like that he looks the age the character is supposed to be...but apart from that, his head looks like a man's big toe.
