Like I said, look up a tutorial for Cheat Engine. It's a pretty simple system, but depending on what you want to do can become much more complex.
Since I have more time now, here's a more detailed guide. Step 1 is to open the game you want to use cheat engine with. Step 2 open cheat engine. Step 3 click the select process button, which should be flashing between red and green. Step 4 select the game you want to cheat in from the list.
Next comes the actual cheating part. Type in the initial value of what you want to change into the box labeled "value:". Then hit first scan. This will bring up a list of every memory address that is at that value. Then do something in the game to change that value. Then type the new value into the box and hit next scan. Repeat this until you have only 1 or small number of entries in the address list on the left. Double clicking that address will put it into the bottom list, which then can be edited there.
