It does take a long while. That's normal I think. Even with all your troops outfitted with seed bulbs, the desert reclaims the green areas almost as fast as you can grow stuff in the new areas. I don't know what the best strategy is, i.e. how long to wait before sending a troop to the next sietch. Keep a troop in an area for too long and you are wasting time and losing viability in a previously visited area. But shuffling your troops around too much is also bad, because time spent traveling is time not spent working.

Where does the path stop in your case? Is it possible, that you haven't saved the game yet and therefore the game hasn't created a folder for the save file?

I have a save because I started one when I coukdn't figure it out. If I try to follow the example path I get to the users folder in the C drive but there is not appdata folder in there.

Ok, appdata is a hidden folder by default. I'm guessing you haven't set your explorer to show hidden items.
