It's not about fame for them, it's about money. DPC is very successful with BaDIK and earns a lot of money. The band is not so successful. They probably have their current reputation only because of BaDIK. But what they don't have is money.

If DPC would not remove the songs and the laws of the country where the jurisdiction is located would decide against DPC, it could happen that DPC has to pay for the whole time of using the songs.

The band is only in it for the money.
If the money would be an issue for the band... why only react 4 years after? I think they didnt even know that they are part of the game... we might be think the game is well known, but lets face it... BeingaDIK is not a game that was selled million and million of times worldwide... especially not in other countries as the US. Cause you cant buy BaD via Steam or gog in other countries. and if iam not mistaken... they are british or australian and not from the States. So its very likely they didnt know about the game so far... i mean... come on DPC contacted them himself at the beginning and they didnt respond for 4 years... yeah i dont think they had a clue about the game in any way until recently... maybe someone they know mentioned that, or they looked after "better times" for themself walking on memory lane and stumbled over the game cause their songs are mentioned a lot on reddit, youtube and co when somebody is posting anything about the game...

MAYBE they decided they want money from DPC now... that might be the case, and DPC said them "yeah go fuck yourself after 4 years" :D here iam with you... and if thats the case, DPC made the right choice

Blink 182 did an album cover with a porn star. I guess it was a company decision, I can't imagine a rock band taking issue with it.
it is not quite the same thing to exploit the 'shock' of collaborating with a porn star and not earn a penny from a marginal 'collaboration' in a porn game...

blink did it to make money (rightly so)

if DPC had paid them probably the prophets would have been there

Someone mentioned this already but we can create a simple mod that will restore the original music in the game. So don't make a big deal out of this. I'm really lazy so I will probably wait for someone to create this mod, but if it's not released in a few months I might consider doing it myself.
Yes, but then we run the constant risk of DPC trying to trip us up every episode for modding his game. I really wish he would not use such a heavy hand when it comes to player mods. They are the life blood of many a game. Trying to police modding is a tad baffling.

I agree with everything except the last part. If this song is so "iconic" and means that much to DPC, then I think he would have just paid the required price. Unless the band are asking for an incredibly high amount, DPC could afford it without too much trouble.

I agree there is probably a money component but that is usually wrangled out by the music producer, and who knows what they asked for behind the scenes.

Plenty of edgy games have had punk and metal soundtracks and now in the current climate of WAP on the radio I don't think it's the "porn" component myself.

I guess we will never really know, I am just glad the bad news was music and not story or rendering setback.

an assumption based on nothing, basically another theory of yours:D

you have understood little

they gave the song for free, if they wanted money they wouldn't have done it, there is no record of them asking DPC for any now in response to a request 4 years earlier (or do you think they have been observing the growth of BADIK for 4 years waiting for the right moment to make their request?)

simply the band died, someone went through the mail and found out about BADIK and didn't like it

in AVN who pays for the rights to the songs? I don't think anyone, in fact DPC didn't even think about it, he'll take another one for free

it's a problem that has already occurred to other developers of lesser fame than DPC, musicians don't like to be tied to porn games
I'm not supposed to have understood anything? You don't seem to understand how the real world works. It's mostly about money.

DPC wrote to them 4 years ago and they didn't reply. DPC must have told them in his letters what he wanted to use the songs for, because otherwise there would have been trouble from the beginning. So the band knew what their music would be used for. But at that time, the band and DPC could not have known how successful BaDIk would be. If the band had objected to their music being used in a porn game, they would have told DPC 4 years ago, but they did not.

The band no success and BaDIK success. What does the band not have because they don't have success? Money. What does DPC have because of BaDIK's success? Money.

DPC has become the cash cow that the band or one of its members wants to milk. That is the way of things in this world. Some have money and others want money.

Yeah, if it was about some serious delay or something along these lines, that would've been much worse.

The change is unfortunate but, in way, it happened at best possible moment -- right after the interlude, and with the next season getting shipped as new executable. So if one was so inclined, they could even view it as some sort of "artistic choice", a change indicating things in the second part of the game are getting different.

(from the view of long-term players at least, new ones will never know)

You most certainly can, why would you think otherwise? Heck, GOG isn't even American distributor to begin with.
well i cant buy it... i assumed its not available outside of the US... well in europe you cant buy it, or more precisely in germany (cause the law is the same for all europe i think you cant buy it in all of europe via steam or gog)

Thats the reason why i think you cant buy it in other countries... so iam wrong (thats why i said i "think" not that iam sure about it), where can you buy it via steam and gog?

I for one get the game via patreon only... no other way for me.

I think it might be more of a Germany thing; they seem to have more strict regulations when it comes to video games than many other (EU) countries, to the point of having to produce separate version. Like, they had a ban on selling Doom for something like 15 years, e.g.

Without getting into details, from what i can see it's available for purchase in Central/Eastern Europe; i'd presume western parts of EU similarly have no real problem with it.

Yeah, it's a German law. Most of Europe can buy it. I think the only way around it is via keys.

DPC earns good money but is not so 'fat' that it can support other

how much do you think the band could charge for a single song?

1%, 5% of his earnings? and that would make a difference to the fortunes of the band?

okay, interesting... thanks for making it clear to me, yeah well.... germany does need an exception for everything... *sigh* its pretty paradox... you dont need to be an adult to buy even games for adults on steam or gog... every child can make accounts there without any proof of age... heck you can even watch and buy every freaking porn movie in the world without any proof... you just need paypal and thats it :D but buying a AVN on steam or gog? Naaaah not possible :D strange country indeed... it always was... but well... if politics goes on like now all over the world, we might be the only country in the future not ruled by some kind of "nazi"... who would have thought that in the past? ;) ah wrong topic in the wrong place... nevermind. Dont lets talk about that :)

Yeah, politicians suck no matter where you go. In Australia things get banned as well for drug references. But games based on sex are fine.

The world is a weird place.

It makes the time.

DPC has used the songs for 4 years. If a court decision is made against DPC, he could have to pay the license money for the last 4 years and if necessary an extra fine. That would be a lot of money, because fines are usually calculated according to income. The higher the income, the higher the fine.

you are confusing

if the band was entitled to money for the past 4 years it would take it anyway (why should it give it up?), that PDC takes it away now would not change anything

Why do many here dislike the reddit Badik sub forum?.........
Because it's so cringe it hurts. I love this game but that subreddit is full of fanboys, like 13 y.o. girls of a kpop fandom.
You can patch your current Patreon v0.8.0/v0.8.1/v0.8.2 version if you'd like to receive all bug fixes. It is a smaller 415 MB patch for episodes 1-8.
Edit: An alternative approach might be to build a modded 0.8.3 patch, which adds the fixes for season 1-2 but doesn't remove The Friday Prophets tracks. Would avoid the redistributing copyrighted music issue. That wouldn't help with season 3 & 4 though.
This is the best approach in my opinion. I'll just patch the bugs and keep the songs where they are. Removing from the patch the code that changes the songs should not be too difficult.
BaDIK is a porn game, no one wants to be connected with porn
I don't think porn is an issue for a punk band from Sweden. I think money is more plausible. Porn is not a big taboo in Europe. In Italy, that is much more religious than Sweden, we have porn actors normally invited in TV programs for families, a famous female porn star elected in the parliament in the '80s, a very popular band partecipanting (as guests) in a porn film ("Rocco e le storie tese"), retired pornstars doing tv programs for kids (Eva Henger), we have been having softcore films running prime time on TV since decades. And Sweden is more culturally relaxed than Italy regarding sex and pornography. So it seems very strange that some Swedish guys were scandalized by a simple and vanilla porn game.
