The fact is that the events take place in a fictional universe. This is a modern world, only the culture is different from ours and resembles the 90s - early 00s. Homosexuals still hide their relationships to avoid being bullied, there is no cancel culture, radical feminists are a bunch of freaks who have no influence in society. Imagine what would happen to Derek if he went to college in the real world and freely expressed his views and disrupted gender studies classes. He would have just been expelled from college.

Well, agree to disagree on that one. Regarding the term "modern world".
Cancel culture, LGBTQABCDEFG+-, SJW and so on are a western related issue, some would even say plague.
Where I'm from, we don't need BLM, gay people don't hide and so on. We have basic human decency, so we don't need capitalistic movements to cash in for every little thing that should be a basic human right xD

i definitely dont want a GIANT WARNING breaking the 4th wall and letting me know the ramifications of the choice, but there must have been ways to at least partially convey in an organic way how serious the choice was.

have a stupid aside with Bella where Jill confides in her that she will ask MC out on a picnic in the coming days and if things go well it will be the sign she is waiting for to know he just might be "the one". have her let the players know that this means more to her than literally anything else and that if it doesnt work out she will look for love elsewhere.

BAM! i just pulled that out of my ass this second and it makes the choice much less ambiguous and lets the player know that Jill is so unbelievable as a character that this is MC's only chance to seal the deal with her for the rest of literal ETERNITY

the issue is that with how much you interact with Jill after the picnic (whether you go or not) shows through COMMON SENSE that the stars could easily align another day and the picnic or whatever could still be there to give her the opportunity to size up MC and determine where they stand. if you dont choose the picnic and basically never crossed paths with Jill again, it makes perfect sense that it could be a point of no return in the game for that LI path. but you never actually lose LIs from the story, and there is no reason that using COMMON SENSE the MC could just talk to Jill one on one any other time he has dealt with her and they could share their feelings.

it DOESNT MAKE SENSE that Jill (who apparently thinks she might be literal soul mates with MC) doesnt attempt a reschedule herself or at least spill her guts to MC and give him the chance to "fight for her" in her mind. its not a particularly well written sequence of events and i understand why players are annoyed or confused that Jill put all her eggs in this one picnic basket. DPC didnt do a great job of getting information to the player pre-picnic and did a worse job (not) explaining why there was never anything about the missed date brought up ever again. i think the frustration is real due to how forced everything about this story line feels

It's forced, contrived and it camouflages as a legit story while its nothing more than badly implemented variable. I'm a big big DPC AND Jill stan. But that was horeshit writing and coding. A chick MC who chooses celibate for Jill get punished the same as a dikly dik Dik. No chance of making things right. You do that recital sequence where Bianca and all the other girls, including Jills own mom are throwing panties and bras at the Mc yet Jill still decides he ain't it if the picnic doesn't have a checkmark next to it. That is not how real life works, and shazba's examples are not valid in my eyes and more importantly experience.

But there is a thing that very well may occur that will make all these discussions moot... Dpc will give the players and their MC another chance with Jill down the road. Just as he will punish Bianca ass grabbers.

Anyway the fact is that in 2020's that kind of stories of gays oppressed by conservative people are a cliché. Gay themes are so mainstream that there is even a subgenre of movies and TV shows. Usually a subgenre that doesn't have a lot of success. The box failure of the movie "Bros", an attempt of a romantic comedy whit big budget and with gay theme, proves that. Gay theme is a niche one. It has its public, but I'm not one of them. I'm sorry but I'm not interested in gay themes and don't feel sympathy for a gay character just because is gay. And I think that the approach of DPC to that theme is biased and shows DPC's prejudices against conservative people.

Maya's father is a caricature people of conservative ideology and social values. Is he into some kind of a dangerous sect, or something? Because it seems he's just a Christian, and where I'm from, Christians aren't like that. Tybalt too, by the way, with that hate to poor people and social assistance. And Maya and Josy's relationship can't be more cliché, except for the fact that being a porn game, the MC has to be able to dick them in the kinkiest possible way. Again, not interested. I just hope that now that Jill has taken over in the role of Maya's savior, Maya is not going to intrude so much in Sage's path.

It's not that deep, it's porn game. DPC does a lot of feminist bashing as well. I won't sit here and claim that DPC hates women.

Tybalt is a comic relief character, that's it. There is no deep social commentary behind poor people or welfare or whatever. He is just a snobby rich asshole. Again, not that deep.

And despite it being 2023, there are still people (not just christians) that think "gay is unnatural" and behave pretty much like Maya's dad does. DPC choosing to portray that doesn't mean he has something against "conservatives" or "christians" for that matter.

And there are so many cliches in this AVN. It's a porn game after all. Like Quinn, despite being so many people's fav is pretty cliche as well. Bad girl with a soft side that she reserves for some cute interactions with the protagonist? Like that's original.
You just hate some specific cliches that's it.

And also while I agree that gay themes are pretty niche, the fact that you chose a single example and then claim that it "proves" something is hilarious. Maybe it's just a bad movie and it's flop has nothing to do with "gay themes"?

Derek just got reprimanded by Jade, he wouldn't get off so easy in the real world right now.
I agree that the gay theme is a cliche used by media corporations to make money, but in the case of BaDIK it was presented well, unlike what we are fed today by all sorts of Netflix and others.
DPC creates interesting characters and stories instead of boring stuff, and he's very good at playing with emotions. The result was that I believed in this story - Patrick makes me antagonize him, and I want to help Maya (Haha, although this may be my saviour complex, i usually trying to save everyone in videogames ).
I understand your position about the conservatives, and it's good that you met only adequate ones. Where I live there are still crazy clichéd fanatics, as Patrick has been presented.
And I'm still surprised, I met people like Tybalt in my life - usually they are young people whose parents are in an "important position" and they are involved in corruption. Mentally poor people who seized upon the golden trough. Especially a lot of such "golden teens" on the roads, who consider themselves the kings of life, because dad bought them a Range Rover.
Of course I understand that Tybalt was made quite caricatured for comedic effect.
Slightly off topic, this is quite an interesting point: DPC has made the routes very different, I have not yet met a person who likes everything. Someone has a route that he hates or thinks is badly written. DPC certainly has problems with writing and I see that these are typical problems of a writer-architect.
But a lot also depends on our personalities and temperament. For example, I do not like Jill's route and I think that many things in it are written incorrectly and adjusted to the "plot".
Speaking of which, my favorite characters are Sage, Quinn and more recently Zoey. Coincidence?
