You're equating "story line" with "drama".

If you consider the main characters, these are their stories:
  • Jill: Student at B&R. She comes from money. Her sister died when she was young. She has been sheltered all her life, and because of that she is rather naive. She has a killer body but a face that can go from good to bad in the blink of an eye. She's been a virgin right up until she's met the mc.
  • Bella: Librarian at B&R. Her marriage ended (?) a few years ago, and she's been frigid ever since. We don't know a lot about her past as it's been intentionally left as a mystery.
  • Maya: Student at B&R. She comes from a very religiously conservative family (particularly her dad) and because she's a lesbian (or most likely bi) it's caused a lot of friction (not that kind of friction... ok, that kind of friction too :sneaky:). Her dad is trying to blackmail the gay out of her. She's trying to hide her same sex attraction from everyone because she thinks she'll be judged for it.
  • Sage: Student at B&R. She's also the president of the HOTs. She's adopted and has a distant relationship with her family, and hates her adoptive brother. Her boyfriend turned out to be gay and was cheating on her; she's only just recently come to terms with it and has moved on.
  • Quinn: Student at B&R. She's also the vice-president of the HOTs. Her dad is either dead or in prison and her mom seems to be a fucked up drug addict that can't even recognise her anymore. She deals in drugs and prostitution to fuel her own drug habit, and she seems to have a lot of psychological issues.
  • Josy: Student at B&R. She comes from a broken home and she recently lived with her dad, step-mom and step-brother who happens to be the vice-president of the DIKs. She's had a crush on the mc while working with him but she's in another relationship which has complicated things. She had a falling out with her dad, but unlike every other fucking character in the game, she resolved her shit ages ago.
So they've all got story lines. There's just no drama surrounding Josy, probably because she's just a normal girl, extremely cute, but otherwise normal. The rest of them are all fucked up one way or the other.

Of course the drama is required, otherwise the story would be boring, but in real life, a DTF girl like Josy wouldn't need drama to make her "interesting". In the game you don't get to squeeze her ass every time you stand next to her, but in real life, it'd be mandatory.

But obviously the way you approach things from the game's perspective rather than real life's perspective will be very different. How I enjoy this game, and how I would handle it in real life:

In game:
  • Bella: A sexual beast just waiting to erupt, her sex scenes are raw, carnal enjoyment. Totally worth the effort.
  • Quinn: I want to break down that hostile exterior and make her putty in the mc's hands. I'm prepared for the fallout.
  • Maya: She can be fun when she's not stressing out, and who wouldn't want a lesbian conversion as a notch on their belt?
  • Jill: Sweet, naïve young Jill, looking to be schooled in the ways of pleasure by a patient guy. I'm willing.
  • Sage: She's great entertainment, and the sex is so much fun (just how it should be). What's not to like?
  • Josy: Perfect Josy, the epitome of the girl next door. I would never pass this girl up.
In real life:
  • Bella: Fuck that, angry old cunt, not worth the effort!
  • Quinn: Fuck that, psycho bitch, not worth the risk!
  • Maya: Fuck that, self absorbed, baggage ridden, damsel in distress, not worth the drama!
  • Jill: Fuck that, stupid rich bitch with no idea how the world works, not worth the headache!
  • Sage: Fuck that, hung-up-on-some-other-dude, angry, vindictive psycho with emotional problems, not worth the castration!
  • Josy: Fucking perfect!
Of all the girls, Josy would be a great girlfriend, the rest would be a fucking pain in the ass half the time.
Damn right. Lately I've become bored with these extreme sources of drama. It's fun to fight a cartel, stand up to a religious fanatic, or save suicidal girls in their last moment, but now I somehow enjoy softer dramatic plots based on the competitive nature of people in the areas such as sports, art, music and things like these. It's author's job to make these stories as intense, dramatic, and emotional as extreme plots.

is season 3 on steam yet?
A season will be only released in complete state at Steam. Each Season has 4 episodes... Season 3 has one so far... "guessed" dev-shedule for each episode is about 9-11 months. The second episode for season 3 will be out in about 2 months. So... do the math yourself. Season 3 on Steam will not happen before late 2025.

I remember when I was a rookie and thought season three episodes would release on steam at the same time
as on patreon. Damn I was naive
Heck, I think the first question I ever asked on this site was when is episode nine coming to steam

Other question would be, how they became best friends? Something might happened at some point and they complimented eachother, and I think it has to be with Jill's sis or what you're saying about James.
As it often happens, they were united by a terrible secret.
They killed a dude, and hiding it.
I remind you that the main, most terrible, villainous villain is usually the character you wouldn't even think about. And Jill is very suitable for this role. :WeSmart:
Look at her.

It's like she's from a thriller movie poster

Or, perhaps more plausibly, Jill was bullied by some guy that Bella "took care of" (one of many euphemisms to mean she killed him) and hid away. Jill doesn't know that Bella did that, but appreciates that Bella helped her. In any event, I suspect the locked room has more to do with Bella's (ex?) husband who probably died in a war or something rather than as a murder victim.

My pet theory is they met in grief counseling, Jill for her sister and Bella for the oft-theorized dead child of hers and James. Bella had a complete emotional breakdown, which is why she is now so closed-off from everyone. They became emotionally codependent, Jill due to her emotional immaturity and fundamental self-doubt and Bella after James left her which completely devastated her and left her all alone. Bella and Jill had a brief physical relationship which they later regretted but still remained close friends.

You may be onto something here. Serial killer and serial Jiller are only one alphabetical step from each other.

If you read this forum carefully, you may have seen that many people have already written as a proven fact that the room is inhabited by zombie James, who has a small child's boot...

People keep thinking Zoey is this freaky, sex crazed girl. But remember, she was a loner, spent a lot of time in detention, and eventually latched on to the mc. She may have been the dominant one in that relationship, mainly because the mc was so naïve and malleable, but it's not like she was sleeping with the entire high school football team at the time. If it wasn't for the mc, it seems like Zoey wouldn't have had any friends at all. She was a loner kid who loved her granny and was wrapped up in her own silly dreams.

So for Zoey to go to San Diego, and end up only hanging out with a bunch of misfits, it's not really that hard to believe. I also don't think Zoey would have put up with a bunch of guys hitting on her, so it's not hard to believe she didn't find a boyfriend in that time, was she even looking for one?

So yeah, she went to San Diego to surf, she ended up working at a tattoo shop, and finished her high school studies. Time flies, shit happens, and in her case, she didn't hook up with anyone. Probably because she was still stuck on the mc but just didn't know it. Luckily for her, the mc also saved himself for her return, oh wait...
I’m like 100% sure there will be Josy-drama. If you’re on non-Josy&Maya route there’s already an option to tell her if you think about relationship with her without Maya and this option gives you 2 cheat points. Hopefully Josy-solo will come in ep10 :D

The side girls are actually more interesting than the main girls right now. I mean look at the main girls: The queen of No! (Seriously, she might be a serial killer.) The Queen of Waaah! (Always waiting for someone else to fix her problems, can't she be even a little pro-active.) - The most interesting thing about her has always been her brother. Josy, while I admire the art and the tropes that make up her personality, she has little conflict to her other than Tommy and her unresolved feelings for Tremolo. Sage's conflict is going to come about from what her family's been up to and the fact that her sorority is a prostitution ring that her dad is involved in. Jill has the most interesting potential story hooks - the fact that her family knew Tremolo's mom and her best friend's boyfriend cheating thing. Pretty sure Bianca is going to hit on Tremolo.

I mean if you drop all the side girls you might as well go and play most of the run of the mill AVN's on this site with such deep character choices as "add this girl to harem" or "knock up this person" or "sleep with mother/sister/daughter/niece/cousin/father/uncle's former roomate."

Say what you will about Quinn and the dumpster fire that is her life, she adds drama and her psychological hangups are interesting. Rio's story of breaking from Quinn slowly is compelling as well. Lily is a riot. Sarah and Mel's sexual competition with each other is fun. Zoey (although I'm not a fan of that many tattoos, especially on the chest) is another monkey in the wrench that's going to add drama.

I mean sure, this is an AVN, but it's not one of your run of the mill ones. This one has always been "Come for the porn, stay for the story."
So to make the main girls more interesting we should focus more on the side girls giving DPC even less time to further develop the main girls stories? It's not sustainable and it could lead to an unimaginable workload. I'm not saying that we should throw away the side girls. Only that the side girls should not have more content than any main girl branch. Connected, troubled and the other road should have roughly the same amount of content. And I'm actually fine with Quinn becoming a main girl, the DIK alignment needs another main girl LI. But I think it is a waste of time to focus too much on background characters like Sally and Karen.

In that case I would prefer if DPC completes the AVN as intended and then retroactively adds new stories with some of the side characters, like DLC.
