It appears that DPC or Patreon now has a free membership option. You may now join the $0 teir membership instead of "following" his Patreon. This "Membership" offers nothing, therefore it's the same as the following, except that it's now counted, which inflates the membership number. Outside of DPC, no other creator appears to have this modification, leading me to conclude it is DPC rather than Patreon.

TLDR: It converted "Followers" to "Members".

Okay, I checked all of this. It is impossible to become a member for free, the minimum plan is still Micro DIK $1

The advantages of doing so are non-existent. Following has previously provided you with information on new public postings, so nothing has changed on the user end. DPC, on the other hand, has overstated membership statistics. Overall, it's a strange development that benefits no one.

Furthermore now Patreon hide the member count (and earning) of the creators you support when you're logged in
