I haven't seen N7 around much these last few years, and the only time mods come around here is for a ban wave.

Yeah, no. You're talking in terms that don't relate to the game. That's just an option, it doesn't mean it makes more sense, let alone 1000 times more sense. For the characters and story we have here, it doesn't really make much sense at all, so the only wayit should be the obvious choice is if you're so conditioned to tropes that you think they are the only way.
You know, if Dr. Pink Cake didn't bother with those unnecessary/annoying minigames we would more than likely have episode 11 already and I can be hanging out with my best friend Derek right now....
