To be fair to Josy. When the girls dump the mc, Josy and the mc's history is they made out once, fucked once, and then ended it. But when the mc ends it in episode 9, it's after leading Josy on for a lot longer, while fucking her and other girls (potentially) left right and centre and then when it's clear she's actually fallen in love with him, he blind sides her with a dumping that she never saw coming.
Her clinginess on the friendship route is kinda evident in that she really, really liked the mc, but sided with Maya's decision to not enter into throuple with him. She wasn't ready to let him go then, but she didn't want to complicate things. But, unfortunately, it is already complicated.
Plus, Maya is being a pain in the ass, and Josy's ready to jump ship, so she kinda keeps checking with the mc to see if maybe they can rekindle things to soften the landing when she bails on Maya.
I do understand that because it's easy to see DPC plans on making a solo route for them. I don't have any problem regarding Josy on the friendship route apart from her loaded coments on episode 9 but, as I said, it's mostly preparation for a solo route for her. I can't get mad over this.
I'm mostly putting Josy in comparison with the other main girls when MC dumps them on their routes on ep 9. Apart from the especific scenario with Jill and Bella, none of them were as clingy as Josy nor as mad as her when MC dumped them... for one side this paints Josy in a very imature way (which is kind of annoying).
BUT! (and highlight this particular BUT) this makes Josy way more realistic than the others, it is annoying gameplaywise but it makes me appreciate her a bit more when it comes to being a character. Also, realistic speaking apart from Jill, the other girls had not come on the same level of emotional connection with MC as Josy.
- Sage has just got out of a very toxic and heavy relationship, PLUS she's waaay more laidback when it come to feelings compared to Josy (mostly are problems that are being addressed on her route), so she managed to kind of deflect the distress from being let down with her shields.
- Bella is not only much older than MC, she's also his teacher and she's a very closed woman. She was mentally prepared from the get go to take a "no" from MC when she started hooking with him. It hurt her a lot, but she still understood the why. This don't less the feelings of dread I get from Bella one bit though.
- Maya was a lesbian for the most part of her life, she was completely insecure about the whole trouple from the start, not only because of the difficulty of such a relationship, but also from the uncertainty of her own feelings and sexuality. Also, she has even stronger shields than Sage over her own feelings because of her family situation... so managing to deflect the ressentiment was easier for her.
- Jill (on any route out of the Bella one) is the only case apart, but also easier to explain. She's just more mature emotionally than Josy. It's something that happens, different people and all that. Of course she was not honest with how she was feeling as always, she cried and probably sat on her bed ruminating and organizing her feelings... if she was completely honest, she would have slapped MC a little bit for making her fall for him so deeply just to let her down.
But my whole point was less about Josy's reaction and more about DPC using that to finally give some well needed development of character to her. As I said before, she feels dry of content compared to other girls. I want to see her growing during my gameplay, regardless of me being on her route or not. She is a good character that got the short end of the stick on the game, since from the very begginning of it too.
