Following on from my earlier, uninformed opinion, I would suggest that dark and black are synonymous terms that contextually apply to different genres. So To Die For could be described as a black comedy or a dark comedy and Seven could be described as a dark drama or black drama. In both cases, one of those descriptions is just wrong, despite there being nothing technically incorrect about them.
Themes are an entire college course so it won't take you a few minutes. Be patient. Here's something brief to get you started.

While I appreciate the only slightly condescending tone, it shouldn't take a college course to define two terms and Quora is about two steps below Wikipedia as far as credibility and usefulness. The thing is... we're not even really talking about 'dark' or 'heavy' themes as much as whether a singular event in a work is 'dark' or 'heavy' so I'm not 100% sure that all of this is even relevant.

Seems like the obvious choice. I still think that she is actually made to be seen like the villain but we do get hints that she is very desperate for money. Sometimes the obvious explanation is the one that is more likely to happen. I´m open to surprises, though (the tri beta theory is a good one. "Smart people making stupid ones fight each other for their own benefit" is a classic).
