Episode 2 is just starting. We begin with a scene which happened earlier than the end of Episode 1. We then get back to the normal timeline with the Rusty scene. This is no new "Memento" but something completely natural in any story telling, be it a book, a movie or a video game. It seemed completely natural to me. Otherwise indeed it just does not make any sense at all.
