Instead of a behind-the-scenes making of BaDIK, what about behind the scenes of BaDIK itself? I think it would be pretty entertaining if DPC did outtakes starring the virtual actors after he's completed the game.
The insanely talented artist G_Jin made some fan-art on this concept

I wonder if it is possible to complete the game without having sex with anyone? Theoretically, yes. Jill's way is the way of abstinence for the sake of a single girl. I wonder if there were those who passed the game in this way?
Ask me again in a few years when the game is complete. But so far, with the exception of the dream sequences, sex is completely avoidable. I have it saved as my Dude route, and the mental and emotional discipline and anguish it took to create it makes it the hardest (actually "softest" ;)) route to play.

Of course, there are unavoidable contacts, such as kissing and grinding, and yes, those might count as sex scenes, but only to the most dedicated of the Jill fans.

I think the only exception is cum-petition, although I wouldn't really call it sex...

So much delusion going on about it possibly being released in October.

...

While development time has increased over time, the most marked difference was during the Season Finale. As Ep.8 also is a season finale, by looking at only this data we should expect a November/December release.

TL;DR:
  • Don't expect a release before mid-November.
  • An early/mid-December release would not be too unlikely either.

For the better part of this week, I wrote code and performed quality assurance for the episode by playtesting and polishing art, code, and dialogue.

I have now added music and sound effects for most of the episode, and I still need a few more songs for specific scenes.

I started working on a big coding task that I have hinted about in the past, and today it's a good time to share some details on it.

Because the game is getting pretty big, and Ren'Py is getting pushed to its limits in some areas, I want to make a new binary for Season 3.

What this means is that after you have completed episode 8, and thus Season 2, you will save your game in a menu and continue your game using another .exe/.app file.

Making a new binary has the added benefit that the initial episodes for Season 3 will have a smaller download size, and you shouldn't have to redownload Season 1 and 2 every update.

If you're getting confused by this, think of this as the same game, only sliced into another part.

Season 1 and 2 will be one separate download. And Season 3 and onward will be another download.

From a developer's standpoint, there are some challenges with this task. My goals are to make this system simple to use for all of you, robust in transferring saves, and functional for both Steam and Patreon. While I'm at it, I also want to trim some fat stored in the save files.

I have both the knowledge and strategy to do all of this, but it will take more time to implement and test it thoroughly as the game has thousands of variables that I want to control and double-check. I have already made good progress on this during this week.

Next week I will continue writing the remaining scenes and pose more static renders.

Have a nice weekend

Called it.

As mentioned in my original post, Season Finales takes more time for any number of reasons. One of those reasons is you have to bridge old stuff to new stuff, handle technical debts etc.

Now STOP spreading October release estimates, and in general spreading naive optimistic estimates pretending they're realistic expectations.

Also, IF I'm wrong (which seems unlikely at this point), then we all win anyways.

Let me lay it out:
Optimistic
Expectations
Pessimistic
Expectation
Early ReleaseSatisfaction of being Right
Positively Surprised
:D
Late ReleaseFrustration and Dejection
Satisfaction of being Right

Manage Your Expectations!

Well I didn't mean in that sense...I meant in code. If I am correct, no matter what path you are on, Jill path is always activated regardless of what you choose throughout the game.

By avoiding LIs I meant that there are choices that deactivates their path but for Jill, there is none for now.

I suspect that those choices "Fight/Don't fight for Jill" will do that job.

And apologies, I wasn't clear in my previous post though I did say about locking in or locking Jill's path...
It's not that way, although Jill's path begins even if you don't want it to (you can't choose when you sneak into the mansion to invite her on a date), there are ways to close the path, the choices on the date and especially if you choose not to take it any further during the kiss on Bella's couch.
Of all the LIs, Josy, Maya and Jill start in automatic but have a point where you can end it (the library in case of M&J and not go further in the couch with Jill), Bella opens her path with the kiss in the library (which is avoidable) and can only close at least so far with the Cathy incident.... Sage on the other hand, you can avoid being fuck buddys, but if you go in, so far there is no way to cut the story.

exactly what I wanted to say

as of today: Jill is the only one whose relationship we can get out of with a direct choice, and Sage is the only one we can get back into the game with.

with Maya and Josy the relationship is more complex, if we consider the trouple as a relationship, in the scene in chapter four we decide (if we can) whether to start it or not, but if we consider individual relationships they start if we have "sex" first, and continue depending on what we tell Derek in the fifth, so in theory to end it with them we have to stay out of the trouple and then confirm the decision with Derek

I didn't put an opinion about M&J individually because we still don't know if there really are individual paths, but if there are, the answer to Derek may be the way to close them.
So far the only hint towards an individual path is the first scene of chapter 7 in the DIK mansion with Josy, where if we tell Derek that we still have feelings for Josy she very "nicely" rejects us saying that she is not going to cheat on anyone anymore.

and here again you are right.

the individual path for now exists more in the minds of the players than in the game, a few sentences with Josy, very vague hints with Maya

Why the f*ck are search results not sorted by date... -.-"
It actually CAN sort by date... if you tell it to. Go to your account preferences and find the Search Options section:

Why the default search order is neither date nor relevance is simply one of those mysteries we may never understand.

Don't know about that, he already manage to make patch updates we could simple keeping applying them. To me this is not a developer decision since it coud start breaking saves and also need time and effort to make it right but a business decision to make more money on steam, new exe means a new game and not a DLC. DPC following EA footsteps, thats just my opnion tho I could be wrong.Anyway...hope everything goes smooth and we can enjoy the game
But in a few years that would require non-steam players to daisy chain a bunch of patches to get the latest version of the game. That's probably a much worse headache than biting the bullet now and splitting the game into manageable chunks.

I don't think this is a money grab. That said, there is one potential wrinkle: if Episode 9 is going to be effectively a standalone update for Patreon, does that mean DPC will not be able to offer an "update only" version for the $5 tier? Or would he need to make the update version require a Season 2 save file to play? Or will that no be a problem since Steam won't sell the competing product until the end of Season 3, at which point the update will be distinct from the full season?

It will be interesting to see how he handles that part, based on the way Steam usually restricts access to low-cost alternatives.

While i'm perfectly willing to critise DPC for many reasons, I think this is probably not the right one. Firstly just in straight rendering time we know at best he has a couple of weeks left and probably more than that. In other words he has time to code things while the visuals are still being prepared. This actually seems like quite sensible project management to me.

Secondly regardless of the actual time it takes and if it fits with the rendering time, it seems to me it has to be ready to go live when episode 8 is published. Firstly he needs to know the system works ready for episode 9 and secondly he needs to make sure the saves bringing over thoasands of choice combinations work.

Imagine if he releases 8. People play for 10-20 (or more) hours getting all thier saves played through, ontop of saves that are already for 20+ hours of content for episode 1-7. Then when he wants to release episode 9 having to come out and say "I'm introducing this save transfer system, but it won't work on your existing saves because of certain changes I had to make, so you're going to, at the very least, have to replay 8 from saves that you probably haven't kept from 7 with this new patch".

Much better he get's everything in place and working now, than risking any issues trying to add it in later as an after thought.
Indeed. Plus, the longer DPC waits to implement this, the more variables there will be that could need transferring. The sooner he starts on this the better. I guess that might change if we expect DPC to wrap up a whole bunch of loose ends soon; in that case he might no longer need to track some of the old variables. But I'm certainly not betting on that. :p

(That said, who would be foolish enough to have overwritten their Episode 7 saves? If Cathy's panties didn't teach you to use multiple save slots, I'm don't think bugs in the save import feature are going to be your biggest problem!)

I'm curious to learn exactly how much time goes into every aspect of the game. I'd love to see a breakdown by percentages. In particular how much time is spent on mini-games and other so called filler.

Like you, I hate the longer wait times, but one thing I don't agree with is DPC subcontracting out the coding (or anything else). He does a great job on his own. As soon as you start increasing the number of chefs in the kitchen, problems arise. DPC is a man who works best solo. I can only imagine the frustrations of trying to first explain everything to a newbie then having to continually check/revise their work. Not to mention the real danger of a programmer flaking out mid-production when his cat dies, he gets Covid, he doesn't feel like working at 100%, etc. What a nightmare. I see nothing but increased production times when I look at team developers on F95 vs. solo developers. Lack of manpower isn't slowing down DPC, it's his own unquenchable need to go bigger and include more every episode.
Well, it does seem like DPC himself is one of the big bottlenecks; the art for Episode 7 was ready nearly a month before DPC was able to finish coding/writing the game. So in theory having more manpower to handle those aspects could help.

But - and I cannot underscore this enough - throwing more bodies at a problem doesn't automatically improve the effective manpower available. In the short run it actually makes things worse since you need to train the newbies. But even in the long run it really depends on how well you can divide the load between different teams and how well those teams work together.

From everything I've seen about DPC, I think he would be a terrible manager, and it seems like he knows this. So I'm inclined to agree that keeping this a solo endeavor is probably the best bet. The long wait times suck, but they're the lesser evil.

The whole idea makes me think of the outtakes in "A Big's Life" or "Toy Story".
You know, normally I'd assume that's a typo. But given the circumstances I'm kinda hoping it's an obscure porn parody. :p

It can be done easily enough (excluding dreams and the Zoey flashback), if you put your mind to it. But there's no particular payoff thus far. Honestly, I suspect there will eventually be a special ending for an MC who manages to avoid girls throughout the entire game, but it will probably be short and very tongue in cheek.

Hints of Maya or Josy's individual path are already there. If, for example, we spend time with one of them, at the end of the episode it is noted that we have become very close to her. For example, after the Hots party in episode 7, we can refuse Josy a night out and thus keep the balance. I think after a while the fact that you spend time with one girl more than the other will affect.
But for me, I wonder if it is possible to return to the path of Josy or Maya on the path of Dick. In my opinion, yes. It's too early to close Maya or Josy's route. Josy says she turned him down because she was scared and that she still loves him. I think at some point there will be a rollback. Maybe even in the season 2 finale.
