Actually, you're right, considering that girls of the same age are 2-3 years ahead of boys in maturity.Do you? Because I have spelt out exactly the difference in maturity level i had on mind in the very message you've quoted and replied to, and yet somehow you've managed to either miss it, or ignore it.
here it is, again:
to make it even simpler: i consider the MC to be a typical person for his age when it comes to maturity. Yes, he acts more mature than Tommy or Derek but they're literally bottom tier in this regard, so that doesn't mean much at all.
But the MC knows what he wants to do with his life. It is clearly stated what he wants to study. He is just unsure about the relationship.
