As someone who's played around with Daz a bit, I can attest to skin textures being one of the more difficult parts of character creation to deal with. You can play with sliders and morphs all day long to get that perfect character, but finding decent skin, especially at higher resolutions can be a challenge. It's why the MC and Tommy look so similar, as they both use the same skin texture. DPC probably didn't have another option back then in Season 1.
I do wish he'd replace Maya's skin assets now though. He has the resources to get something similar made, but not look like a 60 year old. Maya's skin has especially not handled the transition to the higher quality renders he does now.

He probably created custom textures for all characters, or at least most of them, which is why their skin is shiny. He overdid it again, this time with the roughness map, which makes Sage's skin shine like she's been slathered in cream.
It feels like after he creates a texture, he immediately transfers it to DAZ without adjusting it and then doesn't check it after rendering.
I don't know if it's laziness, lack of free time or just a god complex.

It have sharp height, and this skin texture is truly terrible; in good lighting, all the flaws are visible.
Perhaps, in addition to lighting, DPC also upscaled the textures, but this made it even worse.
Overall it's not his fault, DAZ has plenty of cursed models.

It doesn't work this way. Women have more delicate hands and skin. From an early age to ~ 18 years old, the body "grows". And any hard work, detergents, and so on will later manifest themselves in how the hands will look. It also depends on the skin itself. It's one thing when you have a scheduled cream in the morning and at night and you don't do anything around the house or do some little things, what everyone usually does. And it's another thing when instead of creams your hands constantly covered with detergents for the floor, plates, laundry, cleaning and so on all day your hands are constantly wet. among the "well-regarded" games BADIK is the one with the highest amount of WRONG, unwatchable renders. Unfortunately, many relate specifically to LIs, at "important" moments in history
the problem is skin texture? ok, then avoid close-ups that should be sexy and instead look like "embarrassing diseases" trailers, or exploit weak lighting
there are scenes of which the only thing that sticks in your mind at the end is horror, like Lily's butt from Preps....

Regarding the bad renders, I can guess what the problem is: DPC is in a hurry when posing. Remember the last special render with Maya. Bad, rough shadows. Also a common problem on his other renders. And I understand why. With the DPCs production scale, with 6000 renders/half an hour of animation per year, he turns a blind eye to minor errors. Visual perfectionism will turn a one-year development cycle into a two-year one with a given amount of content; there is already one example exist.
This will make you unhappy again because you will say "why is he licking every render, aren't we waiting enough? I'll be retired when the game is over."
Viewing angles, distant angles and properly selected light can really smooth out the situation with Maya’s skin. But not in every situation distant angles is possible.
A close angle to the light directed from the side only emphasizes the shortcomings.

None of the girls look that great a lot of the time, and I personally think they are getting progressively worse looking.
They used to look cartoony and that worked because they were more caricatures, and less weird looking humans.
Now that DPC has been striving for more detail and realism, they're starting to look like freaks for some of the time.
