It absolutely can, if the VN is set up for it. I was playing a VN last night (I can't name it due to forum rules), that had a similar concept, you had the MC, and one LI (who can also just be a friend), all the LIs are separate from each other, or at best know of eachother and with your actions, they can completely cut off the MC and their content is just gone.

But then there's a balance of making it actually feel like a "world" and if everything happens in a sandbox that might be difficult.

Fair point, and this is what I struggled with and thus this conversation. It just struck me as very odd to hear that it couldn't be done in any AVN. I get it can't be done in BaDIK because of the way DPC wrote thing (well... if it was mine to edit, I still could I think and still make a good story of it, but yeah it would be work).

I don't know the exact timeframes because I've never made one, but I've read enough dev logs and Q&As and so on from various devs that I roughly know the process. It's basically something like so

Suffice to say, I'm not short on different story ideas, I'm just not sure about what is workable with Renpy as primary option for software. I'm more familiar with RPGMaker, but people seem to hate that and my only other choice is Unreal Engine and do a full on 3D game and that IS A LOT of work.

the render count for this episode somewhere and I think it worked out to like 18 a day. There's roughly 7000 renders in the update. Then there's post processing and cleaning up renders, for example DPC having to draw in seatbelts in Photoshop
Scripting it all into renpy, doesn't seem to be much of a holdup i gather. Then some people like DPC like to add minigames and all that waste of time stuff

It's a hell of a lot of work, then add in personal issues, burnout etc. I can see how the time adds up, like I said i can't give exact timeframes, but that should outline it.

Maybe the Zoe route is like when you choose Shoko in "Season of the Sakura." On every other path you have about 40% more game to get through, but choosing Shoko ends the game right there.

It's a happy ending, but choosing Shoko causes all the other potential LI's to move on with their lives so there's no more story to tell.

They're mutually exclusive. Basically be a good boy to get I Love You, the threesome takes a little more work. The walkthrough in the OP lays it out.

I think the whole Sage fuckbuddy route started as her rebounding from chad, but eventually it evolved into a relationship.
Even Sarah and Mel commented during the scene of Sage and MC chatting over the guitar about how that right there is not a rebound or a secret relationship but a genuine relationship.

A) and how she responds better to neutral/CHICK MC now like they weren't signs already there as far back as season 2.

As for the Lily stuff, they might have interacted outside of the main story or MC POV. We are only getting shown the important scenes that contribute to the story or something that the MC is witnessing.

For example, we know the side girls of camilla, sarah, riona and mel have been getting action through the restaurant prior to getting shut down. It is even mentioned that sarah and mel bring people to their room for threesomes all the time.

So Lily might have interacted with the DIKs at some point prior to rolling and we are just not shown since it will be trival convo and all that.

Then again I struggle with the idea that it takes an entire year to produce a single episode.

Well the thing is that this game probably have some of the most detailed renders that have yet to be thrown into this sort of adult VN. Think of the stark contrast between the first and later episodes. That requires a lot of time, especially the animations. Then you throw the goddamn mini-games on top of it all and things begin to sprawl.

If you wanna make a game where the non pursued LIs essentially disappear from the game, then you’re also in a sense going to be making x amount of de facto separate VNs right? Because I would assume you’d still want to make a long and reach experience for each LI right? The end result of that is another massive game, possibly even bigger than this one which will take ages for a single individual to do.
