I disagree. We have never seen Quinn in such a serious and sentimental situation. It's not really a stretch that in such a situation she will speak in a much more formal language than normal. Many people do, I'm one of them and I know quite a few "funny people" (among the likes of Derek), who never speak formal except when they're extremely sad or are just telling a story.
Okay, I grew up only in slightly better conditions than Quinn, and lived in a poor area in The Bronx. Not the worst area, but not a good one either. NOBODY speaks that way there, in any mood. The way Rox and Buddy's flashback conversation went is about as high-brow as most go. By the way, that conversation was one of the most realistic in the game for me.

When it comes to "loud" characters getting more serious, it's more about not swearing every other word or not making stupid jokes the entire time, Suddenly speaking in a grammatically correct manner that makes you sound like an asshole isn't the way to go about it, unless you were an evil genius pretending to be stupid or something.

These are my favorite examples of DPC not quite getting the hang of it.
I can't get actual screenshots atm but these are the lines and corresponding pics

Quinn isn't a "loud" character though. She seems quite intelligent, just not a good tactician. So talking very formal in a situation like this isn't that weird for her.

Very poor education, very intelligent. She's not a big reader (outside maybe the Prince and Art of War if her father gave them to her).

Idk if "intelligent" is the right word. Maybe something more like "clever" or "savvy", but even that might be too generous at times.
This is a small complaint but I wanted to just voice it. DPC has this annoying habit of making intelligent or educated characters overly verbose and much too technical with their choice of words. It doesn't happen too often, but when it does it's just so goddamn unnatural.

This little phenomenon reminds me of a small running gag in Star Trek, where Spock will say something in a highly nerdy fashion like the fucking nerd he is, and someone else—usually Bones—will simplify his statement or call him out, to which Spock replies "I believe that is what I said." There's a similar thing where he gets confused by human sayings, as does Data.

Like Sally... well Sally is now a bad example :ROFLMAO: But she's well-versed in vocabulary I suppose. Jade—despite her toxic personality—is an intelligent woman, and she's almost too verbose. And Bella, well Bella is very intelligent, that goes without saying.

Ok… anyone else notice Quinn’s trail in the early seasons? I’ve seen a candy cane in Derek’s closet every playthrough, but I swear I saw one of Quinn’s pink lollipops on Maya’s bookshelf one time. Haven’t spotted or seen it since. Has there been any past speculation on here why Quinn’s candy seem’s to pop up everywhere?

I remember people thought she might be behind the camera, since a lollipop was left behind in Derek's room on Halloween.

I remember that, didn't fit Quinn at all. DPC has a bad habit of using overly formal language that just makes the dialogue clunkier, idk why no one on his "team" has pointed it out. It's fine for Magnar (nerd), Tyballs (snob), or Jade (professor), but not Quinn or Tommy or Sarah or basically the majority of students.

Very nice write up, forgot to comment earlier (y)
To give DPC some credit here, he is not a native american. He is swedish. Many swedish people are speaking very very good english, they learn it in school VERY early (basically starting in kindergarten) and english is basically there second "mothertongue" But its different in terms of how they use english like they do in the US, especially in more or less "lowlife" neighborhoods. English in Harmlem (or like someone mentioned Bronx) is something totally different like using English in Stockholm.

Movies and books can get you only "that far" to get it right how people in the US are talking to each other if they are coming from different lifestyles.

Iam german and i sometimes notice too that its not really fitting how character sin being a dik are expressing themselfs. But i couldnt do better. and certainly no one other on F95 can either. I dont know a single DEV around here who is from the US, most are more like east-europe and you can read that... "engrish" is mostly common :D

DPCs english is VERY good, and he really trys to be as close as he can to write as he thinks people at that age expess themselfs. And he is very close i think.

Even in most US-movies i think all the time to myself "come on, no-one in the age between 18-22 talks like that" (and though iam german, most of the times i watch movies in OV)

I think its just as simple as this: to talk by yourself is VERY different if you try to WRITE how people talk. Most people couldnt even write how they used to talk by themselfs.

My written language (in german) is VERY different to the way i talk... so its really difficult to get it very realstic all the time for many different chracters.

Mostly DPC gets it done very good in this game... sometimes not. And yeah the "serious talk" with Quinn (only on her path) was a bit off, serious and sad or not... she wouldnt use words like she did there in some places. But... meh... it didnt really bother me.

Intelligence doesn't apply equally to all things, and the lack of a proper education limits the benefits of good education. She was trained from childhood to think strategically and mastering social dominance. That's why she excelled in those areas. Without a good education, she never learned critical thinking, and how to introspect better to find flaws in her reasoning.

It's like Rio, who is no dummy, and is really sweet and caring. Her background limits her, along with Quinn's gaslighting, makes her have no confidence whatsoever in herself, despite doing well at college.

Quinn gets lots of shit, and justifiable so, but without the restaurant, neither she nor Rio would be able to afford college.

I doubt she even read those, every plan she has made has failed spectacularly. She is what we consider as street smarts.

I’m going to get a picture of that elusive lollipop someday… I just can’t remember if it was before or after Quinn flipped Maya off (she has her lollipop then). I forget to look up on the shelf when studying at Maya’s desk. Oh well, shrugs…

I do beta testing for quite a few AVNs and that is one of the things I am always looking for. While the words are correct and have the right meaning, but it is not how people would actually say it if they were talking.
