Truth is one person working on a game this ambitious was never going to be able to produce it at a reasonable speed. You could take this as a defense of DPC, but to me it's just ridiculous they don't just... Hire an animator or two, rigorously vetted to their standards, and lessen the workload on themselves. They have the money.
Tell me only one game on this site where a team produces more content than DPC does in the same amount of time. So 300 animations and about 7000 still renders per year. One game please. Of course, nearly the same quality too... dont even bother, there is none.
Iam very dissapointed with the numbers he has done so far for this update... but still... he outmatches everyone else, and doing that alone. (even with the low numbers at this point for this episode he produced more than everybody else...)
On top of that... it was a topic since... ahhh forever here, that he should hire this and that...
And every single time, it was false.
Hiring people to do stuff for him wouldnt increase the develeopment time one bit, in fact... it might even be se opposite.
DPC has particular expectations to what he wants to achieve, just to give the exact instructions woudl take more time than to do it himself.
In this field, creating VN... you only hire people if you dont have the capabilities (time and/or skill) yourself. otherwise its nonsense. All the DEv teams aorund here are teams for a reason, because none of them could do the things themselfs... or they could but the result wouldnt be the same. And most Team projects are abandoned at some point anyways, because they dont work good with eachother.
To delegate things is more time consuming than you think it seems... and you have to like it too, its not for everyone to to instructions and tell people what they have to do... and whats the point in hiring people if you cant get along with others and overworks things later on anyways?
Its not like DPC was alone all his life working on something like he does now... he explained that WAY WAY ago. Initially he wanted to work wioth someone on Acting LEssons, but learned rather quickly that everything would be faster if he does it himself, and he was tired of blaming others if something was not going on how he liked it... Some people work better and faster alone... and DPC is one of those. Not to mention....he is an asshole, not easy to work with assholes... do you liek working with assholes? I dont. And yes, he is an asshole, everybody who is following his project a bit would confirm that in a heartbeat, maybe even DPC himself would do so.
But besides that, it would NOT increase development speed one bit, that is a wrong assumption.
Cause the only thing that determines how long he needs, are the animations... and those animations are something DPC enjoys the most. He would never give those out of hand. Why would he? Its like telling a painter "ah dont bother painting the details and background, it takes too much time, let others paint those for you".
In DPCs mind, he is creating art, an artist would never ever give his "baby" out of his hand. Its not just work, its his passion.
And he needs to work on different things now and then... if he would give things out of hand, he would be sitting there and do the same opver and over again, working like this and the game would be abandoned in weeks. Because above everything else, DPC needs to enjoy working on that game... and there is one thing he doesnt like at all, working on the same things too long.
He writes stuff some weeks, than is creating art, making music, coding and so on... everything "timekeeped" by the animation queue... thats how he is working. changing that would blow everything up for sure.
