Didn't he say he doesn't look at the forum here anymore? Maybe he's more active on his discord
Yeah, he stopped going here. But he also is rarely seen in his discord too. He may pop up here and then but it is more or less "Oh hey guy. Sorry about this but due to reasons, stuff is going slow but the game is making progress. So if you want to make it faster, just give me more money okay? Okay bye." kinda vibe

Well, knock yourself out. Make that remake, I dare you.
Why? I do not need to nor want to, feel free knock yourself out on some light reading on the past few pages maybe you will find out why suing will not work out the way you think it does, page 1146 is the end of that talk i guess you can start there. If you are talking about the characters, outside of the artwork there really not much to copy this is really, is just a standard incest story that barely started.

The problem is, the thing that people loved about The Manor was the artwork. And the story. Both of which fulfill all criteria to be covered by copyright.
Take these away and, sure enough, it's just another cookie cutter incest game. But take these away and you'll find zero supporters willing to pay for your project.

Just want to bring it out here: Remaking the game and keeping it faithful to the original will get you patrons and legal trouble. Removing the offending bits won't get you in trouble, but won't get you patrons, either.

With how little story there is right now, any remake will be its own thing. Now at the time when this game did come out i agree it was somewhat unique, but right now the only original thing about it is the artwork. so why do i need to remake it?

Really? It's an open and shut case and he gets compensated. That's a no-brainer. If anyone thinks it's easy to just copy a game and expect no repercussions, you're wrong. And it doesn't matter if the author seems to care or if he abandoned it. It's still his own game and unless he licenses the content (or even just the concept), he's free to ignore it while nobody is free to remake it.

Even if the game is ostensibly abandoned, the creator might be talking with a potential licensee behind closed doors and in such a case, if you copied the game and benefited from it, you're completely screwed.
christ, you must be looking REALLY stupid.

I'm just here wondering if you can actually copyright something with fringe content like Bestiality and Incest themes added to it. Like, how does that even work?

Granted I'm ignorant on the laws of Uruguay (or any other country, for that matter) and what they deem as fringe or not.

Welp. From what I've seen here, people are free to make a fanmade game of it. So, anyone who's interested and have the passion, knock yourself out. Go fucking wild bois.

In most countries copyright exists the moment you create something. You do not need to certify it or claim it. Often it is beneficial to record it in someway just as evidence.

Illegal content is likewise automatically copyrighted. Enforcing that copyright? That's a different matter.

Why? He said he won't sue fans making fanfic for other fans. He's not Nintendo.

Right then he added that it all depends on the intention.

And after that, he clarifies that it's okay if people make not-for-profit fan content, but it's a completely different thing if they exploit the original source for profit.

And in recap, he clearly said: it's fine if people:
a) give due credit
b) clearly state it's fanmade content
c) don't try to profit from it
— then, and only then, it's okay.

And then he adds that knowing where it's coming from, somebody here is thinking of remaking the game or rallying others to make it for them.

He said he won't sue not-for-profit fanmade content. He also said exploiting the original story and art for profit is a different matter. So he clearly stated his intentions and really, arguing that it's safe to make a for-profit remake (because the goal is to lure patrons away from Dr Bones) is irresponsible at best.

You really think the guy that can't be bothered to work because his hemorrhoids/kidney stones is even capable of hiring a law firm to try to sue someone? What is he going to do? Cry that his 'totally original idea' was stolen by nefarious actors? How many games on the site are almost carbon copies of each other? It just seems goofy to assume Phoenix Wright is gonna roll up and strike down any dev that wants to make something similar.

Say I make a game with an mc who has some degenerative disease, like highlander syndrome, so he looks younger than he actually is. He has one bitchy older sister/roommate who hates him for no reason. There is a younger sister/roommate that loves her older brother and is kinda stupid. There is a mom that wants to be a better mother/landlady to her son/tenant who she barely knows, because he lived with his dad after a messy divorce. What if I called it The Mansion? The mc meets a ghost/demon/leprechaun that grants him powers to spy on and seduce his family/housemates.

This is literally every fucking incest+harem game. Unless, it's an ultra slowburn, that doesn't rely on a magical macguffin/bullshit powers to corrupt/seduce/enslave everyone around. Bones is not breaking any new ground. In fact he's asleep at the wheel and has been asleep for a year now. I'm sure his alarm to wake up and add a new reworked/redone old scene will go off sometime in the next 6 months or so though.
