Exploration can really snowball your food/materials/gold when you have a large gang but what you get is so inconsistent that I've not bothered with having a second gang since gold is super important for assigning dudes. Just a suggestion but I thinking having the brothel and gloryhole be less chance based affair would be better, especially for early weeks in an area. Something like 1-2 gold per 5 whores/slaves and then have the patron events scale based on the numbers. Same with the science approach. I think that the basic mechanics need less of a random approach for progress and something more steady to work towards.
Please don't forget that i just rewrote a lot of the game mechanics. In addition, there are only a few areas available now, there is not even combat implemented yet.
It is not meant that the player can have everything from the beginning. He will grow more powerfull over time and then more gold is easier to get, as is everything else.
In the missions i rewrote (1+2) gold should not be an issue, since in mission 1 you don't need much gold and what you need you get from Arjun. In mission 2 you can trade 5 prisoners for 20 gold, therefore gold is not an issue either, especially when the new refugee mechanics are added.
In all other levels, at the moment you can just sell females at the auction to get gold, but there will be more possibilities, those missions are not finished yet. In addition, while having more cars, you can add gold to take with you to the next area. You will also get whores/slaves and so on that you can take to the next area, which you can add to the whatever building you want.
And on top of that, some buildings don't have events yet, like watch, HQ and barracks. Watch for example will give you prisoners (as a company on patrol duty will once combat is added). HQ will grant loyalty and humility boost through concubines and probably give specialized females too.
Looting is only possible with your main company.
A second gang can give a steady income through supplies missions, but it's meant for somewhat later in the game, even though it will be (is) possible to build straight towards a second gang. Barracks makes soldiers cheaper, 1 gold per barracks level. The more the player advance, the faster buildings will be accessable, and in different order dependeing on area. For example, i added an event to watchtower which explores the area. In levels where you get watchtower earlier, you can add stuff to do part of the exploring for you and you can focus on other stuff.
Going dictatorship can make soldiers free when military rank is maxed with barracks 5.
Science is extremely strong and is the only "resource" that has no reset. Which means once you researched something, you have it forever. Giving a steady income for a few dudes, even when it is low, would give the player the option to just skip female scientists.
The thing is, i want the player to be dependent on events for more whatever. Because that's when in the game the video clips start to play. That's basically the whole concept of the game, to "get it running" that you get the events. The porn is not a reward in itself, but also the reward for ingame currency like gold, food and so on.
Because that is what i disliked about some games i played, where the porn doesn't help you in the game, it's just there. In my game, whenever some porn is played, it gives you something that helps your progress. And to have progress, you need the porn.^^
