I think a little more hand holding in the beginning would be best for those new to the game.
I want to add some kind of help, but not sure how exactly atm.


However, I'm posting because I may have stumbled on a bug. The brothel and gloryhole are not contributing any income beyond the occasional end of week event with a generous patron. So I'm on map... 4 I want to say, the one where you need a combined brothel/gloryhole level of 5 and 20 whores or slaves. I had a level 5 brothel and 20 whores but no steady income.
The income of both, brothel and gloryhole depends on different factors and when the numbers are low income is low or can even be zero.
The factors are (example brothel):
number whores in relation to brothel level, number of male population in relation to whores, and to some extend government form and leadership.
If you have let's say 15 whores and 40 male population with a brothel 4 your chances to generate gold are still very low. Something like 33% to earn 1 gold plus another 33% for another gold and about a 25 % chance for another gold. That means you can earn up to 3 gold a week, but it can be easily zero gold too.
The most important factor is the number of whores in relation to male population. But when those number are higher, lets say you have 70 males (cap is 100) and 35 whores, you will make about 2-3 gold on average a week.

The chances for patrons will also increase.
Edit: That being said, when you consequently try to fill the numbers of brothel and/or gloryhole, at some point you will have that much gold that there isn't anything to buy, except for experience.

I thought about increasing the income slightly, since looting can be way more rewarding. Or just selling all females at end of area to get gold for xp is effective and i don't want that.
Therefore i think i will give the player an xp bonus based on total trained females at the end.

Exploration can really snowball your food/materials/gold when you have a large gang but what you get is so inconsistent that I've not bothered with having a second gang since gold is super important for assigning dudes. Just a suggestion but I thinking having the brothel and gloryhole be less chance based affair would be better, especially for early weeks in an area. Something like 1-2 gold per 5 whores/slaves and then have the patron events scale based on the numbers. Same with the science approach. I think that the basic mechanics need less of a random approach for progress and something more steady to work towards.

Please don't forget that i just rewrote a lot of the game mechanics. In addition, there are only a few areas available now, there is not even combat implemented yet.
It is not meant that the player can have everything from the beginning. He will grow more powerfull over time and then more gold is easier to get, as is everything else.
In the missions i rewrote (1+2) gold should not be an issue, since in mission 1 you don't need much gold and what you need you get from Arjun. In mission 2 you can trade 5 prisoners for 20 gold, therefore gold is not an issue either, especially when the new refugee mechanics are added.
In all other levels, at the moment you can just sell females at the auction to get gold, but there will be more possibilities, those missions are not finished yet. In addition, while having more cars, you can add gold to take with you to the next area. You will also get whores/slaves and so on that you can take to the next area, which you can add to the whatever building you want.

And on top of that, some buildings don't have events yet, like watch, HQ and barracks. Watch for example will give you prisoners (as a company on patrol duty will once combat is added). HQ will grant loyalty and humility boost through concubines and probably give specialized females too.

Looting is only possible with your main company.
A second gang can give a steady income through supplies missions, but it's meant for somewhat later in the game, even though it will be (is) possible to build straight towards a second gang. Barracks makes soldiers cheaper, 1 gold per barracks level. The more the player advance, the faster buildings will be accessable, and in different order dependeing on area. For example, i added an event to watchtower which explores the area. In levels where you get watchtower earlier, you can add stuff to do part of the exploring for you and you can focus on other stuff.

Going dictatorship can make soldiers free when military rank is maxed with barracks 5.

Science is extremely strong and is the only "resource" that has no reset. Which means once you researched something, you have it forever. Giving a steady income for a few dudes, even when it is low, would give the player the option to just skip female scientists.

The thing is, i want the player to be dependent on events for more whatever. Because that's when in the game the video clips start to play. That's basically the whole concept of the game, to "get it running" that you get the events. The porn is not a reward in itself, but also the reward for ingame currency like gold, food and so on.
Because that is what i disliked about some games i played, where the porn doesn't help you in the game, it's just there. In my game, whenever some porn is played, it gives you something that helps your progress. And to have progress, you need the porn.^^

I will have mission 3 finished in 1 or 2 days, then i release an update. It includes a change of the refugee mechanics which will make things way easier, especially for that mission.
Until then what you can do is try to get a few concubines. Devotees in combination with humility decrease the amount of escapees immensely.

I totally read over the meaning of your post. You can change the numbers under this line:

If you want to change it just slightly, depending on the number of prison staff, you can change the following line:
<<set _humEff = _rollHumility - $humility>>
to this:
<<set _humEff = _rollHumility - ($humility + _prisonBreak)>>
It was a test before i added devotion and the code for "_prisonBreak" is still in there since i didn't know if i will add it again or not.
But in my experience, devotion is very strong in this regard. I tried some runs where i wanted the females to flee and it was nearly impossible due to concubines.

My issue is simply, I cannot build up any loyalty or humility because everybody runs the next turn. Thus resetting to the base value. Gold I cannot get as I've not uncovered the brothel or the other place. And even if I did I wouldn't be able to staff it. All I can do is explore to get resources I don't need or need so much of I cant accomodate. If I pay a yearly wage to a goon that runs off the next turn I'm still left with negative money to pay back. Whats he doing coming around every week to collect for not doing his job?

Sounds like you are in area 1. Just follow Arjuns storyline as it is stated under objectives at the beginning

Update:
- xp gain for trained girls
- new refugee mechanics
- added more options for "hire staff"
- area 3 completed
- 2 new "cars" added, one of them is an achievement
- it's possible to transfer staff to next area now

I realise that there is an issue with the "retry". I will come up with a solution next update.

EDIT: I have it set to not accept more goons, but they keep showing up in a random event. (AH, now I see there's a seperate toggle for that)

EDIT2: But I don't WANT to pay the head hunters for girls that I can't feed.

EDIT3: After hiring fifth staff member, can't sell anymore untrained girls for cash to fix SUV (but I can go back in a later week to do it).

Is there a way to tell Soranus to take some time off ? Castle Black is not having enough suicides, so I was forced to use violence in order to make the deadline.

It's what you have to do in that mission:
"To achieve that goal, sell them as many whores, concubines, slaves and pets as possible and let them suffer as much as possible."
Soranus even helps you with that goal. Forgot to add that line in the description when you have Soranus, but the code for increasing suffer instead of reducing it is in the game.

When the headhunters bring girls it costs gold, without gold they leave without selling. When the hungry refugees arrive, you have to pay food, without food you get the girls anyway, but humility decreases.
