Tablet users (or those with convertable laptops in tablet mode) don't have keyboards immediately available, so 'redundant' buttons are quite helpful to tablet users. I do appreciate your pointing out that there's a keyboard shortcut though (didn't know that)! While I do agree that a clickable button to return home from wherever would be great, you *can* currently shortcut back to the brothel. "H" key will return you "Home" to the main brothel screen from pretty much any location where you are not currently involved in an active event.
Anyways, here's a (somewhat) quick mockup for an alternate version for the girl screen.
Note that this is a mockup, so thing aren't going to be exact placement wise...
Poor Kinzi would never have all five of these icons showing at once ( I don't think you can be both hurt and tired at the same time, you get injured before you burn that last endurance), I'm just showing all of them for conversational purposes.
The new icons I'm representing here would be (looking at the new icons in Kinzi's portrait), from top to bottom:
Phobia (she has one or more phobias)
Hurt
Resting
Tired
And a Level Up icon at the Bottom.
Note the smaller icons and color coding to the right. For demonstration purposes, I picked these colors for the girl backgrounds:
Purple - Whore
Green - Geisha
Orange - Masseuse
Pink - Dancer
Blue - Waitress
White - No Job
Bright Orange/Yellow - Selected
Grey - Resting
Red - Injured
Note that Vynkyo the Dancer's background SHOULD be grey (she's resting), but I just wanted to show off the pink color for dancers in this context...
Note the smaller versions of the 'condition' icons on a few of the portraits. This is for quick reference. Also, note the energy bars at the bottom of the portraits. The idea here is to display the immediately pertinent information in the 'gal scroll', so that you don't have to click on their icons immediately to figure out how tired she is and if she has any phobias, or if she's resting, isn't working currently, etc...
Having the 'Phobia, etc.' icons appearing twice might be a bit redundant, but this way you don't have to 'search' for the highlighted gal in the scroll list to see her 'issues', as they are included with her portrait. Some of this information is also sorta kinda repeated again in the column to the left, but remember that the 'job title' button text changes if someone is hurt or tired.
Also, the two rows of gals is to make more gals immediately clickable, without having to scroll.
Note that the job titles are changed to blue if a gal is resting. Just another way to show the same thing as the resting icon...
In the current UI, a couple of these ARE handled via the job text, but this way you'll know what her current job title is, whether she's working, injured, or resting.
Oh, and note the calendar icon at the top, above the gals. This is just a quicker way to get to the weekly scheduler, saving you a step if you haven't clicked on a gal as of yet.
An additional thought that just came to me. If you used this idea, you could overlay a number over the hurt icon, to show how many days the gal is expected to be on the injured list. Same for the 'Tired/Exhausted' icon, if that number is knowable/should be knowable.
I suppose that you could make the job title clickable (in the gal scroll list) to change her job title/resting status (like you can now at the left). That's kind of redundant, but then you wouldn't have to move the mouse to the left afterwords if that's all you wanted to do.
Again, my goal here was to increase the amount of relevant info that would be immediately visible, to help reduce the clicks needed to figure out a few of the more relevant bits of info. Like trying to remember who has the various phobias that you might want to 'fix'. Also less clicks = less annoying (usually...)
Anyways, that's my Girl Screen idea/suggestion in a nutshell.
