Anyone know why i can't seem to rename any monsters? Either it crashes or the keyboard input simply doesn't register.

Did some more testing and it seems it's the English patch that breaks it. Unpatched install works fine, but the moment i run the (otherwise great) English Patch over it the game crashes or refuses to acknowledge anything i type when trying to rename my units.

Tried multiple compatibility settings, even tried typing in the IME pad. Same result. The input just refuses to 'take' yet the game itself is fine with WASD.

And yeah, items can roll with cursed prefixes that are fairly easy to spot by reading the descriptions. Stat wise they can be pretty good mid-tier items, though you'd have to pay to unequip them (or have a spell that destroys them) if you run into something better.

After having a shiton of problems installing and running this game, i finnally managed to do it and in fullscreen tho.
As others have said you dont necessary need to mount the ISO and then install the game, you can just open the iso with winrar and copy the files, the only folder you seem to need is the bunny one, wich contains the game, but maybe you want to get the other install and so files outside the other folders, just in case.
Then after intalling, pathching and whatnot when I got the game running in full screen sometimes the window would minimize on its own, even using the win 7 compatibility and other settings, and I didnt find any way to fix it. So i tried running the original jap version of the game and I got the exact same fucking problem...., the only thing I noticed is if you let game minimized for a few minutes it will fix in its own, temporally.
For the patches I dont really know whats the differency between them, but since it looks the only file you need to run the patches is the Bunny.exe, maybe you want to keep a clean/original copy of it, so you would be able to patch again the game with other vesion for whathever reason you want.
And then, running the game in fullscreen was my biggest headache, tried many things that didnt work, I also didnt want to buy nor piracy the other app mentioned in this thread, and I felt like trying to code somenthing to run this game on fullscreen was to much work for me. But then I find a free app, IntegerScaler, wich makes surprinsingly easy to run games with fixated window size, or just without fullscreen mode, to appear like they are on fullscreen and with no blur. So I left here what I did.
  1. Search and download the app IntegerScaler
  2. Extract the rar whenever location you want, and run either the x32 or x64, wichever you need.
  3. Now the program should be running, and you should see it in the hidden icons section.
  4. Now run the game, in window mode, and press alt + f11 if it doesnt work press ctrl + alt + f11, and the game should appear like is in fullscreen mode.
If this doesnt work, wich was in my case, what you need to do is:
  1. Create a shortcut of the intergerscaler.exe file you used
  2. Open properties of the shortcut and it the section of the end route/end path (idk how is called in english), at the end of the file path write -f
  3. It should appear like this "C:/Downloads/Intergerscaler_64bit.exe" -f
  4. Now close the game and exit intergerscaler, if you had them opened, run intergersacler with the shortcut you just created, and then run the game, now with the game focused press alt + f11. And it should appear like is in fullscreen.
I wasnt expecting anything with this app and it ended up being surprisingly useful.

Geez that installation guide is convoluted as fuck, here is a new one (In short, you install it more or less the same as pirates used to install games back in the cd/dvd era (90s to like mid 2010s), mount image, install game, apply patches):

  1. Download main game, patch 1.20 and hotfix 1.21
  2. Mount the MDF file and install the game from installer.exe (note: it's all in japanese, you can set an install path at the bottom, install button is top left)
  3. Move the english patch exe for 1.20 to the install directory and run it to patch the game to english
  4. Move the files from 1.21 hotfix to the game directory to fix whatever that's supposed to fix.
To mount an MDF image file on windows you need software like daemontools to do this, on linux use this command
Code:
mount -o loop -t iso9660 /path/to/image.mdf /path/to/mountpoint
There, clear instructions if anybody wants em.

I have no idea what the unofficial version is or why anyone would want that so i'm not touching it.

It seems to play just fine on windows 11 except for refusing to fullscreen, on linux it works even better (cuz it'll fullscreen) except it won't play the intro cinematic or the credits (You're not missing much, data1.dat and data2.dat in the game folder are the videos, you can just play them).

The installation guide is so damn ambiguous and non-specific, even the later attempt at elaboration still had me doing over an hour of trial and error only to hit a wall. I don't even think it's necessarily the fault of my boomer-level technological affinity lol; I know how to follow instructions, yet I have tried and failed to follow these on three separate occasions. I don't have much experience with downloading VNs (which I believe go through a similar type of installation process), but this one seems seems to me especially convoluted among those I have (I think it just assumes more knowledge than warranted on my part). If someone is willing to type out a straightforward play by play on installing this White Whale that actually describes how (and where?) to 'mount' what using which program that has worked for them on a windows 10 PC, I would be eternally grateful lol (it doesn't have to be an essay, I don't think, whoever deems my dumbass worthy of assistance, I will heed your wisdom).

When the instructions tell you to "Mount" the file, that is terminology used to refer to something you do with software for interacting with image files from a CD/DVD. If the file is "mounted" your computer treats it like you have a CD in your CD drive.

Not something that is particularly necessary for modern games, but older games often need your computer to detect the disk inside while installing or running the game.

So you use software to "Mount" the disk image file and then as far as your computer is concerned, the disk is there in your drive where it is supposed to be and you can run things.

The instructions suggest using PowerISO, and I haven't needed to use mounting software for years, so I'd just go with their recommendation, download PowerISO and give it a try.

Hopefully my explanation of what mounting is, is enough to get you through the rest. I have no memory of the process.

Seriously appreciated, you'll probably hear from me in case my future attempt bears fruit lol, otherwise, well...
