I don't get anywhere. English is not my mother tongue either, so I may not be translating the meaning correctly. And I don't have the time to try out the 10,000 possible answer combinations.

BYGR not working

Click on the boxes from left to right, note the first letter of the colors, then you have the code.
Should also be gold instead of yellow. So BGGR (Blue, Gold, Green, Red), but was somewhere yesterday where I had the puzzle.

Can someone actually help me with the elven riddle?

hot to get to Dreary desert ?

You have to go through the Generals quest in the snow city until you get the mission to find the flying object, which is a helicopter in the starting town. Then when you do the helicopter pilot's mission, he can take you to the desert.
