Yes this is true for the good and for the bad, Jaye is very well written and the dynamic between her and the MC is powerful, but on an extreme example, there is some very well written villains around and even though I guess many more will still cheer for the hero even if has less depth than the antagonist.

I'm with darkcaptainfighter, even though the former is true I enjoyed more the fresh relationship and dynamic between the MC and Mal, so no you are not an oddball and you are not alone in your preference for sure but yes I believe that probably there is more Jaye fans than Mallory's and it is understandable.

On the players choice statistics your signature it the best answer Facts don't care about (our) feelings, and as former scientist student and later/now Quality technicien I rely a lot on facts and statistics/probabilities so I also "follow" (not blindly) that motto.

If I wasn't that kind of player that plays almost every path possible, and I did play all the 4 main paths and the alone path (later after chapter 9 was released), probably I only would play the solo Mallory path that was my main playthrough all the way (but wouldn't play the game over) when I replayed all the paths after the release of chapter 9 misleading conclusion of Jaye and Mallory open relationships that didn't gone the way I thought it would and at the time it was my only playthrough. Got pretty pissed at the time but the game is so well written I decided to start a new main playthrough focusing on Mallory that at the time already was my favorite.

Side note : sorry about the last paragraph, English isn't my first language and had troubles to put my train of thought into words, after read it, it seems confusing even for me . Hope is clear enough hehe.

I don't think the open relationship thing is misleading at all, it perfectly fits Jaye's character. I've said before, but this game is mostly about Jaye and the relationship between her and MC. That girl loved MC since she was 9, that's when she wanted that ring and imagined MC proposing to her with it. MC loved her too already back then (the tingling feeling during the bed fort scene that he did not understand).

For Mal, the open relationship option is understandable exactly because she does not have a past with MC, they've just met and she knows there're some unresolved feelings between MC and Jaye but she still wants to get involved with MC, that's why she keeps trying even after learning that something's already developed between MC and Jaye.
Jaye on the other hand must know that MC wants her and her only above all before she could consider bringing in Mal. She loved that guy since she was 9!!! They had a 16 years long past. She had an attitude sometimes? Yeah, but MC was the one who tried to push her away and even if he had good intentions that move obviously hurt Jaye a lot. They were kids. He did not even succeed by the way, despite the "attitude" she was with him (and vice versa) at all the important moments of their lives! She went to each and every game MC played in for many years, took revenge when someone hurt MC. Also, she's still a virgin at 25, never dated (the Christian thing is very well explained, wasn't close to dating), never touched another man because she was and IS in love with MC. She even accepts how MC was dealing with his feelings in the past without any jealousy.
Then MC is fooling around with Mal and tells Mal he wants an open relationship AFTER the naked night in Jaye's bed (fort) and the shower scene with Jaye. They've just stared to (re)build their relationship and got physical too. MC also told her he isn't dating anyone, and while it was true back then he forgot to mention that that's changed, Jaye finds out by chance when running into Mal in front of MC's door at night. It's quite reasonable for Jaye to feel betrayed and to avoid that poly relationship in this scenario. I did not try that option yet, does she dump MC too or the solo option remains?

The poly route comes when Jaye feels she is the only one MC needs even though she suspects that MC has feelings for Mal too. And it's perfectly fitting!
Focus on Jaye all the time and obviously be as nice as one could be to Mal always but don't stop her when she leaves the room after getting in because of Amanda. The choice to confess feelings to Mal and the poly option from Jaye comes up then, no trickery and walkthrough needed.

There is various options/outcomes, you can keep going on the solo Jaye, solo Mal, dump both or be dumped by both. I used that playthrough and dumped her both and began the "alone" path, that I also would get by being dumped by both.

The rest of the post I agree to disagree, but it is pointless to argue. I see it completely different, not on the background stories and in those I agree but on the outcome of those experiences, doesn't make sense based on my own personal experiences, but ok this is written from a completely different point of view and different experiences than my own and I understand it, if I wanted the outcome to be different I would have to write my own story haha and I'm not a good writer.

Edit : Also it makes the trust stat completely pointless in that open relationship scenario, I would understand those outcomes if those trust stats of Jaye and/or Mal were low, but in my playthrough they were very high and near the max values, the least I expected was if those trust stats were high that we also would get a path/choice/scene where communication between the 3 were involved, there isn't anything that can't be solved and agreed by clear communication.

The way the poly path happens I would be in a clear solo Jaye path after "helping Mal" and would never look or think at any other girl, the way the poly path happens doesn't make much sense to me also but again, different people different views.

For me,

Jaye (and James) fit seamlessly into the family of Sarah and the MC. They created a new family, and the early story shows how James worked hard to include both Alex and Jaye when he did things.

Jaye was not a prissy princess - she was active and more of a tomboy - involved with Alex and happy to have him in her life.

Yes, a miscommunication when they were young occurred, putting Jaye and Alex on different paths but they both tacitly supported each other in their sports and other things (until Christian).

I think that the devs really captured the angst of two people - Alex and Jaye - who loved each other but felt like 'society' would not understand or let them have that love.

The fight scene at the graduation party did a nice job bringing that angst and the underlying love Alex had for Jaye, to protect her from someone he thought tried to hurt her, to a head with Christian getting knocked down and then Jaye losing her temper and going after Alex for defending her.

All of this is preamble to their bittersweet reunion when their parents died.

I was on the Jaye love path and that reunion was a bit rocky but, IMO, very well done.

The emotional rollercoaster and the end of that rollercoaster ride, leaving a wiser and more honest Jaye and Alex, sold me on their relationship.

If you are on the Jaye love path, Lisa can clearly see how Jaye and Alex feel about each other, and she is Not going to try to get in between them.

If someone chose a different path, snubbing Jaye and intentionally distancing Alex from her, then Mallory could well be the easy choice - with nothing in Alex's past interesting him romantically anymore.

The Jaye and Alex love story is one of my favorite LI story arcs: finding love, surviving adversity, and finally finding happiness - a top 3 journey across the hundreds of AVNs I've enjoyed thus far.

In the game I followed the same path as you (Jaye love path) and I will only quote your last sentence, but I agree with everything you wrote, word for word: I am only expressing my personal opinion based on my personal tastes, but of all the AVNs I have played so far, this is definitely in the top 3 if not in first place.

Leaving aside physical appearance, which is largely a matter of personal taste (in my opinion Jaye is gorgeous), I think it's mainly a question of empathy.

Jaye is just one of the best written characters in about 200 (99% completed) AVNs, top 3 if not top 2 for me. She is simply wholesome and the relationship dynamic between her and MC is perfectly written too.

About the "most people swear by Jaye" part...
Steam achievements:
Game over (where MC tries to let Jaye die during the storm) - 17.5% of players
Manifest Destiny (where MC ends up with Jaye at the end of Chapter 9) - 8.9% of players
Quite shocking.

Exactly and the blended family is just the last one because of the way it is gotten, if there was a path to get it in an open relationship with both I guess it was 2nd and probably really close with Jaye solo, it is not so intuitive to get as the others ones but I believe this was intended like it was a special harder ending with specific requirements to get.

For a weird comparison in CoBD there is an alone special ending with an epilogue with 2 of the main LIs and a special bonus scene in a less intuitive path to get it. Forgot how many people I tried to help on both those "special" endings with either screenshots with URM or pdf walkthrough screenshots and I gladly do it. At least now there is a resume on how to get the poly ending on the OP.

In addition to narrative reasons, Stoya has said they deliberately made the poly ending hard to achieve because with the personalities involved, they believed it would be challenging to achieve in real life too. So you're definitely not wrong there.

I believe that is tied to getting her maximum affection points in the prologue. If you do she waits for the MC. She doesn't hook up with anyone else unless the MC rejects her after that. So yeah, even if you don't go her route she can still be a virgin at 25 until the MC rejects her.

That's how it went on my Mal solo run. Jaye didn't end up finally hooking up with someone else until the ending itself where she's married to another guy and has a kid with him.
