I've seen an instance where an indie dev was being blatantly ripped off. In that situation though, which is different from this case, the website where the pirates took a game from a dev I have been working with for nearly 5 years now, tried to sell the game to make money for themselves. They didn't actually create the game, they simply took the game and tried to make it as if it was theirs. When the dev contacted them about it, he was more or less told to "prove the code is yours".Well, I liked it quite a bit, especially the music choice which I rarely care about was quite fitting. But it's really toeing the line between "inspired by" and "ripping off" Petal Among Thorns. Hopefully going forward it can put some distance between the two games.
Being inspired by another developer is one thing and most devs will usually do a "shout-out" in some way to the other dev in their game as a nod or homage. Not take another dev's ideas, hard work and creation and call it their own. I'm not saying that's what's happening here... just that appearances make it seem so. It's not a good look, IMHO. It's no different than plagiarism. Changing the names doesn't make a difference. Just my $.02.
I'll be blunt, if I were a dev and someone did that to me, yeah, I'd be pretty pissed off about it.
