can someone tell me how good this vn is on a scale of 1-10
A perfect ten !! I definitely recommend you to play it ASAP or you can wait for Ch.8 to pop up this month. If u never gave it a shot, look on pornhub for some dudes like JohannesGaming, MisterDoktor, JoyStickCinema, xxxninjas, LoveSkySan69 etc. they do walkthrough vids of porn games and u can check out the content to see if u like it. Gotta keep informed, right ??:WeSmart:

But seriously now, you can't go wrong with this game or this dev. I also recommend Depraved Awakening, his last game. DA was a great game but COBD is a masterpiece.

Have fun playing both games and consider supporting Philly with a positive comment/review, constructive criticism or subscribe to his Patreon page !!;)(y)

Other thing he said he was thinking of is an Indiana Jones-type adventure mixed with some Lovercraftian elements.
Well fuck, there goes my next game.

EDIT: I wish I was joking...

If that's your plan, you should continue development. There are many works across all media that are similar in concept, some nearly identical. Different creative perspectives can make for enjoyable experiences regardless of the relative budgets or "star power".

I'd be excited to see any developer tackle such a story concept. And while Philly may choose that idea for his next game (he hasn't given any direction yet on what's after CoBD), he won't be finished with this game for a good long while, giving you more than enough time to develop some momentum.

That would be a big fat no. Patches only work for unmodified original versions. Compressed is a modified & unsupported 3rd party version.
That is incorrect. If anything the answer is a definite maybe, seeing as compressors – with the notable exception of those working on android ports who will at times switch out the included Ren'Py runtime – generally only touch media files.

But the whole point is moot anyway, seeing as the update patch alone is twice the size of 1.0.2 compressed and Tohe Miju will be better off just downloading the latter (also linked in the OP).

Well in this case Cabin Fever is correct, the update patch wouldn't work properly with the 0.6 compressed version.

This is because compressors unpack the script files and almost always leave them loose in their releases. Unpacked script files take precedence over files inside RPA archives, which most games including CoBD and it's update patch use. So any existing script files won't be updated by the patch, including the version number in options.rpyc.

So patches will generally only work correctly with compressed versions if the original patch does not use RPA files for it's scripts.

This is an excellent point though.

The structure or rather packaging of the game allows for manipulating the media files without extracting the script files.

This is true for both the official release and the 0.7 compressed I could get ahold of. There are also no extracted script files in 0.7 compressed:

Seeing as I don't have access to 0.6.1 compressed, that may have been something Philly changed in anticipation of the steam release (as it's easier to deploy hotfixes this way). But until someone points me to the relevant post detailing this change or grants me access to 0.6.1 compressed I will stand by my original point of them not being correct in this.

I don't think I've ever seen the official compressed released here?

I imagine Philly is doing proper image optimization against the original source material, so isn't compressed in the same manner the unofficial ones typically seen around f95zone.

The f95zone compressors mostly use a Cruncher script, which I assume unpacks all the scripts by default, because this is almost always the case with those I've looked at.

The current compressed version in the OP is an unofficial City of Broken Dreamers 1.0.2 Compressed version using this Cruncher mechanism.

As you can see the script files are loose:

Cabin Fever got it right, as in contrast to 0.7 compressed 0.6 compressed suffers very much the same problem as 1.0.2 compressed.

As to the rest of your post: Philly is distributing jpegs and thusly indeed employing lossy compression (but with higher perceived quality than cruncher will provide) and it's not cruncher that's used to extract the rpas but rather unren. It is quite… interesting to see that not only does one need to take the game's general structure into account but also the work habits of our resident compressors.

Thanks for the insight! (y)
