LOL Maybe it's me that's strange. But as a rule, when I'm presented with a choice to be considerate/warm towards others (even more so when I know that person and am not in bad terms with them) or not to give a damn f*ck about them instead, my natural inclination is to pick the considerate/friendly route.

Elsa being an alter ego would explain a bit of how she never wants the MC to talk to her in front of people, or touch, or a host of other little things.
It'd be pretty on the nose to do that though, since it's already heavily riffing off of Fight Club.

I will keep doing so even if its revealed otherwise .. my MC will be with Elsa in the end even if shes just a figment of his imagination

Yeah, it would have to be a twist with extra steps, like she's a real person, but they don't actually have their sessions talking and plotting, those are all in the MC's head. Like a Deepfake, but powered by a psychotic break rather than AI.
I don't particularly believe this theory, but I can see how it could be argued for. Like how she wouldn't open up the door in front of MC, it was suspicious. Whether that's because she's a figment and can't open doors, or she doesn't live in that building and being paranoidly private to keep things from the MC, or she was just stubborn and going to make him suffer a bit for challenging her.
Nah, you guys are stuck on the Fight Club analogies... honestly, it seems to be a lot simpler than that: both Elsa and Ed are two very fucked up individuals, albeit for different reasons, and in the end their story will likely be of helping each other out (or not) with their respective issues, whether you romance her or she remains a friend.
