Torvalds wanted to become a duke/whatever -> was denied-> created own cult -> tried summon a demon -> failed -> waited X years until *important event* -> tried to summon a demon again -> succeeded at it -> get ABSOLUTE POWER -> *player character enters the server*
But what happens next, after you ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL, is a circus without flying horses and clowns.

Because she's still somewhat an enemy (a frenemy?). She was one of Alissa's closest friends so she's still on her side and looking for her just like we are. Ideally, there will be different routes depending on what we do with her (respecting her choice and letting her go to Alissa or imprisoning her)
Curious why people complain about the main story in this game when it is not very different at all from the first.

I think the point is because the first game was mostly just Fen writing everything himself, with some additions from the community later on, whereas this one is a "team" of people raking in tens of thousands of dollars a month, and it's pretty much the same quality. Like 10 years ago this would be okay, but with the amount of money you're making and the changes in tech and coding practices, you would have expected more.

Just like this one above me, They're doing the same thing except this one's a scuffed version of that one.
The first one had a taste of spite writing but this one is MOSTLY spite writing.
The first game at least had me allowed to do some stuff I WANNA DO, This one doesn't, this "sequel" forces THEIR things to ME.
The first one's a lot older but goddamn is it still a lot better than this piece of shit.
This game gives me the good art / pics, I do not give a shit.
All I want is to play at least an average-y if they're going to make the same thing but nahhhhh, this piece of shit is already trying to mimic the first one with a bit of edits and they still FUCKED IT UP!!!
Hell TiTs is still probably a lot better than this one with all the interesting tile-based controls and that weird-ass level cap.
I guess they kinda liked the way TiTs thing where it's tile based movement or something but hey, Llith's Throne did it better, A LOT of both games' features, Lilith's Throne did it better (Aside from optimizations because Java and once-per-century update schedule.)
Sandbox elements are near-zero in this shit and again, LT did it better, a lot better.
Story probably will make this one win it since they're doing the same shit as CoC1 but a lot more scuffed...
I guess the budget and focus went to the art since the gameplay feels way too bland nay BAD.
Stats are janky, enemy stats are janky, Why is there a level cap? Why is it a forced party system?
The CHAD MC in the first one didn't need shit for companions.

The story was good around THAT time bud but this one? If we're going to see the same story again, at least make them try to make it a little more unique.
Any game made today will be judged as poorly as you did here in the modern day bud'.
Any game of the year in the past is probably going to be mediocre in the future players' eyes as our standards will keep growing higher and higher.

Not entirely sure where you're getting that people think the story from the first game is good. If anything, most people agree that the story writing of the first is very simplistic in comparison to this one. What complaints like Raf-Raf's are getting at however is the apparent lack of player agency in CoC2 along with other glaring issues that are either due to some of writers' pieces or general attitude of the content creators.
People praise the first game for a lot of things but the story definitely isn't one of them. Unfinished story beats, dumb character interactions, flat character writing, just to name a few. Hell, people generally love the mods of the first game more than they do the actual vanilla game itself.
I personally am of the opinion that the story of CoC2 is better than CoC. There's an actual plot, I was invested in trying to advance the plot when I first played the game a year ago, the characters are generally a lot more interesting and despite everything that's transpired, I still like Cait and Brint.
What I don't like is the lazy way corruption is handled, how I am forced to have Cait in my party if I want a healer, how I can't even go solo lest I want to go try hard, how there's an arbitrary level cap like this is somehow a DnD campaign that operates on milestone levelling, how the writers make it very clear they hate player choice and jerk off their OCs at every chance they get whilst making your PC take horse futa dick in the ass and claim you love it. I don't like the incongruency between your actions and the reactions of the people around and the absolutely useless deities that exist in the world. At least in the first game, the reason why the goddess of Mareth isn't doing anything made sense since her waters are severely polluted and corrupted. Here? Dunno, guess gods doing god things and not caring despite the fact that it is well established that they can interact with mortals.
There's a lot of reasons why people like Raf-Raf make comparisons to the first game. The 'stellar' storywriting of the first definitely isn't one of them.

I give a lot of shit to this game, but credit where credit is due. After playing a bit of Seeds of Chaos today i realized that it's very much unlike CoC, in the sense that in the latter i can succesfully pretend most of the smelly shit in it doesn't exist. That's quite an achievement, it must be said.
Any body figure out how to change your race with the editor without turning yourself inot a chimera?
