I genuinely cannot understand how anyone could say CoC1 is better than CoC2 considering all of the jank and unfinished content in that game. Not to mention the heavily inflated encounter rates for certain characters like Tamami while Izma or Ceraph have such low encounter rates that you almost never see them.

I tried to play the CoC Expanded mod recently and, I shit you not, it took me over 100 explorations for Ceraph's Stronghold to show up in the High Mountains after I beat Zetaz because I couldn't find anything other than Harpies, Sophie, or Basilisks.
Sounds familiar, huh?

I think Observer has a bad habit of trying to tell 100% of the story. Engaging storytelling tells half the story and leaves blanks for the audience to fill. This allows us as the audience to personalize a story by adding elements from our own imagination, and makes it easier to visualize ourselves in the scene or to empathize with what characters are feeling. This also speeds up the pace of writing, because the audience doesn’t need a task analysis on common tasks like how a character made their peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Telling all of a story slows the pace and can actually take an audience further out of the scene despite the wealth of information they’re being provided.

I also think Observer’s narration is out of place. I’ll break down Gwyn’s tummy rubbing scene as an example.

In this first paragraph, the narrator’s pausing to emote, “… ah”. Not only does this elongate the time spent in the moment, but it tries to provoke the audience to share a particular reaction. Did you “ah"? I didn’t ah.

In the second paragraph, the narrator’s speculating, “Perhaps [her breath is] surprised, perhaps [her breath is] not”. Again, the time spent on the thought of Gwyn’s surprise is elongated, and although Gwyn’s reaction is an important part to the action in the scene.

The third paragraph is great. It’s pure character.

The fourth paragraph begins, “Oh it’ll help. It’ll always help”, which is one It’ll always help more commentary than was needed to understand the implication. Again, we’re being forced to linger on a moment more than was necessary, and it’s revealing more about the author than the author’s characters.

A narration style and pace like this has its place, but I think it feels out of place in CoC2. For one, it doesn’t match the other authors’ submissions in voice, pace, etc. which causes it to stand out. I also think it’s better suited to a visual novel or something where the author has more control of the protagonist--or where the narrator is a character. There’s enough agency in CoC2 that it stands out when the narrator tries to take control of every step of the protagonist’s inner monologue. And that's why I think word economy and narrative voice are the reasons why I think Observer tends to match badly with audiences.
This one speaks my mind. In most cases with Tobs writing.

True happiness doesn't come from the recognition of others, but from the unreasonably large penis you gained along the way.

Cheaters will never know the joy of an organically grown megadong.
You cheated not only the game, but yourself. You didn't grow. You didn't improve. You took a shortcut and gained nothing. You experienced a hollow victory. Nothing was risked and nothing was gained. It's sad that you don't know the difference.

I'm a little curious as to the specifics behind the general dislike/hate for The Observer.
So I don't repeat myself I'll just link to my post earlier in this thread during one of the many times The Observer and his writing has come up.

https://f95zone.to/threads/corrupti...8-savin-salamander-studios.11371/post-3464185

I do like SOME of his stuff. I think the Kitsune den which largely features his writing is probably the best dungeon, not really in terms of the fighting/story but because it wasn't left void of content for 6+ months, it added a lot of additional outfits/spells that made it feel like the PC had hit a milestone, and I generally enjoy reading long bad ends so his one for Nakano + PC was right up my alley. His sex scenes with the drunkard and Keros aren't bad either. But generally, his smut fails to turn me on whether because it's the words he uses or like with the Icebirdman and the Kitsune party in the woods...he always adds this thing where the male partner is begrudgingly fucking your PC or otherwise not fully enjoying it. While your PC is losing their mind to lust. It's just like...why. Takes me out of the scene a lot of the time.

And like Renonymous said, the big thing is that TheObserver does too much. He overrides whatever you play your character as or however you want them to act. Once he starts a scene he takes the reigns and speaks/acts for the PC and rarely gives the PC a chance to choose how to react or to make choices themselves. It means there is very little engagement for the PC once his scenes start and so if it's a super long scene (like most of his writing), then you're just sitting there basically reading a book for a bit because you can't give any input and the way he writes it feels like he really doesn't want you to lol.

Just like others said, eh overwrites your MC character in his scenes instead of just providing scenes and leaving the rest to your imagination. Just that simple.

First game was way better nothing like being a one man army and exploring the weird Demon land so much fun then going back to camp to the harem.
I like that aspect of CoC1, but writing quality is WAY below what is in in CoC2 and there is a lot of unfinished content or content that desperately needs expansion.

Btw, is there any way to make a party in CoC2 without Cait? It feels like my party will die in a few encounters without a healer so i can choose only a single party member, not that i dislike Cait, it's just that after having her in my party for majority of the game i'd like to try hanging out with other party members too.

I might be wrong on this but I think Etheryn after getting her new set of clothes turns into a healer so you won't need Cait.

I like his writing. OK, he can be wordy, but I am a type of person that usually reads almost anything that is in front of me. But yeah, he does overwrite your MC sometimes. And there is one aspect I have with the writing somewhat.

The thing that annoys me somewhat is that if you are playing as futanari/trans character, your kitsune wife/daughter will constantly call you fater/papa. I do not know why that annoys me. I know that I am taking the role of a father (similar to how some gay couples take on roles of straight couples) but it fuels me with weird inadequacy.Like I am not good enough and that It would be better If I was a man even if it is never said in game. Or maybe it is that they never really aknowledge you as female or any of your characteristic (breast, your looks or anything really).I know that it would be tiering to write around player character to much, and silly. And that most of the game is like that. Where the transformation you went through are never really brought up or anything, because they are only used for you as a way for you to role play in game and picture yourself having sex. But why I think it is extra annoying in kitsune content is because it feels like your character is male no matter what you play. Like it was part of visual novel, with specific character in mind, but somehow got transfered to this game. So your choices in how you identify and present yourself are not really acounted for. Kind of lame, but I am still able to enjoy Observers content. Helps that I like Kinu and Kiyoko as characters as daughter and wife.

Also does anyone feels somewhat guilty that they are fucking everyone while also being married? First time it happens in a porn game.

I do not want to read the thread, because it feels like walking on eggshels. But what was the consensus and reason givens for the way tobs wrote it?

Edit: Actually read it. So I was right on the money. You are basically taking more musceline side of the parental spectrum. Good enough reason.

Land of milky honey.....do, I first earn the hive knight's trust and after defeating alrune, she gave me the quest. After that through challenge, I continue to rape her until she stopped appearing.
So, after talking to sanders he tells me about a holy knight who can purify the hive. Also, my cat harem has a ex holy knight.....does that mean, my cat harem ex holy knight is the corruption route???

I haven't done the corruption route so this may be different, but I think you have to go south from the village to the valley where you will have an encounter with a human paladin. Then you meet her in the northwest part of the Old Forest where you have to work together to get into the dungeon.

I wish I hadn't read that lmao. Whatever inkling of respect I had for The Observer (as a writer) went straight down the toilet. He just sounds so damn pretentious in his responses.
lmao, right? dude's talking about how his writing "questions post-modern sensibilities" and acting like writing a kind of rude samurai guy is some groundbreaking avant garde piece of workl

I swear the writers completely forget that they're writing fetish porn, not some grand creative project. bizarre to me that they end up with fanboys defending their attitude

Did you somehow forget what community you're talking about here? These are the same people who get excited for an update of an old dungeon they've already played through, about a few months to a year ago.

true enough I guess, fanboying over delayed content is a fair bit worse lol
