Maaan, I feel like salvaging slop is only ever going to produce mediocre results. You can't forget what came before, the memories you have of the kitsunes as they are now will carry forward with you to the rewritten kitsunes so no matter how good the new Kiyoko and Kinu end up being they'll be carrying stigma and specters of spite with them. Even a talented writer would struggle to wash away the first impressions left behind by their previous author.Do gotta wonder if it won't be too much work. Besides, the art they got for the kitsunes is pretty solid, they're just saddled with being a part of Tobslop.
I'unno, I have no concept of how difficult it is to create new NPCs and events as pointed out by GS but from a writer's perspective at least, the kitsunes are just incredibly frustrating to rework. It quickly starts to feel like there's a problem with EVERYTHING surrounding them, their lore, their society, their village, Kiyoko's history, the way the orb functions, the way kitsune fit into the forest, their place in the plot with the demonic invasion, simulating parenthood with Kinu, their connection to a living god who's holding all their souls for them despite how shortsighted that feels from the kitsune's perspective and how that relates to demonhood and corruption- how do you even corrupt a kitsune if their body is just an empty husk from the start being kept 'not a demon' through some vague connection to Keros? Do you just cut off that connection briefly and watch them immediately go full demon in front of you? If you project a barrier that keeps living god wifi out, does any kitsune who crosses that barrier immediately turn into mini-Kass?
I change one thing and find myself with five more questions and concerns, so I have to change more things and it's all so shoddily tied together before long, all written out of some messy necessity to keep something else making sense or cover up a plot hole in some other part of the game. All the while, there's the knowledge that I'm trying to salvage writing done out of spite, I'm taking someone's venomous anti-player fanfics about how cool they and all their creations are, and trying to turn that into something that isn't immediately offputting. Leaves me feeling dirty to even be trying so hard in the first place.
My sanity demands I scrap it all and start fresh with a blank sheet of paper, no Tobs or Savin nonsense to have to work around, take some of it as inspiration but not gospel.

I'unno man, at the end of the day, it's not just dialogue rewrites or a reframing of the events that are in the game- it's just total overhauls. That's the only way I can think of fixing things. The framework's too rotten, the foundation's hollow and likely to collapse under too much weight, patching holes isn't fixing the structure, it's just hiding some of the most immediate problems- and I wouldn't want to stay in that house knowing it might fall in on me at any time. Would make life in that metaphorical narrative-house super stressful and unpleasant. I'd rather build my own, while taking notes from the existing one on what to watch out for and what might need to be futureproofed.
It's one big spiral into madness trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and rationalizing any of this for them enough to warrant keeping any of it.
