I think the stairs to the loft are against vicky's room wall. Otherwise, perfect. There is the L couch & TV in the space between the wall the door to the bath/laundry room. I would think it is bigger (like goes most the way down the wall as well as it is a pretty big bath and the laundry room is in there as well.
Also, the loft would extend over the restaurant (almost as a 3rd floor) since you can see the bed directly Infront of you as you top the stairs (looking like a rather large space) and there is a couch, if I remember correctly directly right as you reach the top. Don't recall the rest of the loft layout will have to play again to see lol.

If, just sayin', we are looking for accuracy.

Hey guys, welcome to dev log 42.

I've had a very productive couple of weeks once again, with my efforts being split between a few different tasks this time.

First, the UI work that I showed you in the last dev log is now complete, with all of the bugs (hopefully) ironed out. Unfortunately, I've discovered that old saves will probably stop working. I spent a good amount of time trying to remedy this issue, but it seems that it's not actually being cause by the new UI, rather it's a consequence of updating the version of ren'py the game runs on, so there's nothing I can do about it I'm afraid. Fortunately, with the nature of Cosy Cafe being a linear story, it probably shouldn't matter much, as you can simply skip to any update from the start, but I just wanted to let you all know that it's coming.

Next, I spent a lot of time working on a new map. As you can probably tell in the images attached to this post, it's the back of the cafe! That should be all of the map work needed for this update, but I wanted to really get it right, as it will feature heavily in a lot of future content.

Finally, I have, of course, been rendering. I've finished another 250 renders, including some very time consuming and technically challenging ones - believe it or not, setting up and posing the painting render attached took over 45 minutes, and I've had to do dozens like that this update! Fortunately, I've mostly finished with that now, and the rest of the rendering for this update should be pretty straightforward.

So, with all of that being said, and most of the more technical aspects of the update out of the way, I'm finally in a position where I think I can estimate a release date:- Mid December. Of course, as usual, if unforeseen issues crop up it may flex a bit, but knowing what I have left to do, I think that should be very doable.

As always, I'll speak to you all in a couple of weeks, though I probably won't have much more to report than "I'm still alive, and I'm still grinding through the renders!" - so until then, thank you all for your support!

Eh? You think it bothers me?
Jokes on you!! I replay it every time a new update drops

I can do you better. I go through the story every 8-10 days or so, just as an escape to life. Sarah's feisty mood and Vicky's teasing usually brings me to a better place than where I was before I turned it on. Probably going to go through it again once I get my chess journalism pieces done.

Which we are, more or less

To the left, as you walk up the steps, are just racks and shelves with supplies and such, which is where Lucy found her plant pot, so it's just really a storage area. There's a couch I think in the middle of the loft where the MC slept that first night with Lucy, and next to the bed are the dressers. Here's the screenies of the attic layout:

The storage shelves are opposite the bed/sofa on the far side of the room next to the bannister/staircase.

How are the houses made for these HS games?
They have to be created externally in a 3D software and then imported to the game?

Well, I've played Honey Select 2 Libido DX or whatever the hell it is, and they have all sorts of rooms and locations and things like that, but I don't know what the image extensions are for them. The extensions for this game is .webp, I'm assuming it's the same for HS2, but I'm completely spit-balling my theory here as I don't know if it's even possible to UnRen HS2 to find that out, so honestly, what the fuck do I know? :ROFLMAO:

I know there's different locations, but I don't remember you being able to edit objects in said locations, hence the question.
Don't know if they are simple 3D models that can just be replaced. Hahaha
And HS and HS2 isn't Ren'Py, so it won't work at all.

A lot of devs use prebuilt maps from modders that import them via unity. But when I first started I couldn't find any that really fit how I imagined the cafe to be, so I started making my own in HS2 instead (with the exception of the train, the mall, and the town centre). That's why the first ones I made that appear in 0.1 (like home/school) are somewhat shitty, I was still getting the hang of it.

Making a map in HS2 basically involves placing each asset individually; so that's every wall, floor, ceiling, piece of furniture, tuft of grass etc. HS2_2024-11-13-13-41-10-119.png
See the "Workspace" window on the right? That's a list of all placed assets (that I've sorted into folders). Including the back exterior that I've just made, I would guess the downstairs of the cafe is probably over a thousand placed assets at this point.

Doing a map from the bottom up would drive me insane, well, more insane than I am, and I'm a chess player used to having patience for things, but that kinda thing would drive me the hell out of my mind placing every single prop down. Ugh! Thinking about it makes me shiver.

Oh, didn't know that. That's very cool!
It just like a porn The Sims, then. Hahaha
I thought you just choose the room and that's it.
The good thing is that it makes your games really unique!

Btw, from my experience in hospitality, that kitchen is huge. The restaurant I worked in had a kitchen half that size for assumably as much or more tables.
Yeah, all of the rooms from the early content are wayyy too big, but for some reason I just didn't see it when I was making them. The classroom was one of the worst, with huge empty spaces between tables and at the back etc. - That one I've actually gradually shrunk down as the game progressed, so it looks a bit better now than it did at the start. Another serious offender is the attic bedroom; you can't quite tell from the perspective of the camera, but there's insane amounts of empty floor space up there.

Maybe the characters are still going through some late puberty changes, so the rooms seems smaller as they grow more. Hahaha

I've been in classrooms in middle and high school that had the double occupancy desks decently spaced out, like the ones in a classroom from the earlier versions.

As for the kitchen, I personally love spacious kitchens like that, giving people enough room to move around in, especially if they get a third person in there (which I'm assuming at some point will be Akari). Being a cook myself, I feel more comfortable in bigger kitchens. The one in my last apartment in Boston was claustrophobic.

MCs grandfather was a rich and powerful noble, I think he can give himself an oversized kitchen if he wants.

I'm not saying the café was a hobby for his grandfather, but I don't see it having been his main income like it is for MC. So making it would have been more about what would be comfortable to work and cook in, rather than anything else.

Expecting a noble to have owned and worked in a tiny cramped kitchen is stupid in my mind, like you don't see any of the Families living in huge mansions.

As for the classrooms, depending on the age of the building, they could easily be explained as the size of classes having gone down over the years. A classroom designed to accommodate 30 or so students and their teacher is going to look massive when there's only 15 or so students using the room.

Honestly, I think reminding people what The Families, are nobles with the money and power to do whatever they want, would solve any perceived weirdness in this game.

This isn't meant as an attack on anyone, and certainly not the dev, just another point of view.

Same, I was quite perplexed by the game’s title and the characters calling it a café when I saw the size of it and what’s on the menu. But as S1nsational said, the Family background explains the former at least :)

Isn't there something early in the game where the MC comments that the kitchen is huge/awesome? That would fit well with it having been designed as a "dream kitchen" by someone with a lot of money. The MC might find out more about it later. :)

Yeah, very early, when he first walks in basically. As it's been mentioned, he was the head of a Founding Family, and the more space the better. He might not have been rich like Hamilton or Gilbert, but he definitely had money. I personally think the Cafe spaces and the apartment bedrooms are just right.

Two empty bedrooms left. So for argument's sake let's say Hannah gets one of them, who would get the other? This 12th mystery girl childhood friend that gives me BaDIK "Interlude" vibes?

Brian. Since you are stealing his fiancee, he won't have a chance to merge another family unless he goes after you! :ROFLMAO:
