if you make routes you either double the dev's workload or dilute the content. Making a decent game with routes is almost like making two games, you can include choices for text flavor but that's also way too much work.
And then they inevitably complain as each update takes longer to release (or dev keeps same release schedule but each update has less content) because choices exponentially increase the number of scenes that need to be made.

including choices for text flavor is not that much work especially because the writer can determine how deep they want to go with the differentiation. let's not infantilise people and act like any effort is monumental. having multiple routes is certainly a significant multiplier of effort and given how long it takes for even small updates from most devs i'm not sure they're able to handle it.

Flavor text that only affects the conversation is easy, flavor text affecting the entire game is more of a pain in the ass than anything.

Then people bitch that choices are meaningless and insignificant... instead of worrying about the dev being infantilized you just make or find the game you want to play, instead of recommending changes to a game that's doing fine.

is this a sex cafe where employees have sex with customers in a pseudo-brothel?
Nah.

High school student with ability to cook, inherits a cafe (more of a restaurant really) and hires girls from school to help him run it.

He's quite dominant, and the girls gradually develop into into his harem.

There is a lot more to it than that (it's greatest strength is excellent writing), and for mine it's one of the best AVNs around. Certainly worth downloading the free version and checking it out.

I do find Rachel cute, I have always had a weakness to short haired girls after all.
Her personality is awful right now, but it will be explained why, and Jack will make her turn around.
Have more faith on Cosy, guys!

This game is good to bad it is a kinetic novel, and it could have been so much better.
Not to call you out in particular, as I see this sentiment shockingly often.

People who think this way, do you read a novel and then complain it wasn't written as one of those Choose Your Own Adventure stories? Do you watch a film and wish for intermittent halts in the action to make a choice yourself?

This work is not a game and is not analogous to a game. It is most like a print novel, published first as a serial. The author has composed a linear story and shared it for interested people to read.

Here, consequential reader decisions would be nothing but a dilution. We're experiencing events in a group of characters' lives, as we do in a novel, a manga, or even a movie. The choice you make as a reader is simply whether to continue.

I'm grateful that we don't have to contend with false choices or shallow branching storylines in Cosy Cafe. There's a pure vision at work here, and every bit of effort poured into the story benefits every person who chooses to read.

Hey question, for this game does a platonic playthrough end up as scuffed as it is in Eternum? Does the story and feel hold up without any of the romances, or does it feel like you just lose a huge chunk of de facto main content?

There aren't really any (significant) choices in this one, so all playthroughs end up the same.

I did notice something odd about ages that wasn't Annabelle.

Elizabeth Russell is listed as 20. Yet Alison notes that they're kinda friends and have been acquainted for awhile. Alison is 27. That seems an implausible spread. I would've pegged Elizabeth as closer to her age, maybe 25 at least.

Well, I would say considering the fact they are all the Founding Families there would be a lot of socializing among each other and being that they are all supposedly rich = most likely snobby, would encourage the younger gen to socialize within the families. We are not talking about normal poor people we all are (mostly / probably) so it is not or would not be strange to find age gaps in this environment.
