I have looked on his Discord and there appears to be no news regarding updates, or any new annoucements.

No post on Patreon since December 2023. I wonder why he used to only post on Discord, that's not where his paying customers are afaik.

I don't know whether it's true for Babyswithrabys or not, but often developers include "Discord benefits" with different support tiers, so those who support them get access to the Discord channel. He's over there probably because many supporters are there, and then non-supporters get the link to it from places like this, so he can communicate there to try to win over more supporters as well. I agree, though, that he shouldn't post only there, since obviously not all supporters will join.

As you said, I can't speak for this dev, but as a dev myself, speaking from that point of view, I try to post on Patreon at the very least every 2 weeks, but I also message every new member and let them know that I am on Discord almost daily, that they can contact me directly on discord, and that discord has additional behind the scenes content. Also discord is where the tiers that get acess to the betas can actually download the betas and test play them as part of their tier perk. Both are tools for the devs, but for me discord supports patreon and is critical when it comes to tier rewards/perks.

I tried to join this Dev's Discord, and it said you had to be a Patreon supporter to be on his Discord. So there's that.

Huh, strange. Normally you can join without being a supporter since, like I said, many devs use it to respond to questions not answered here, which sometimes prompts someone to support them who otherwise might not (like me). But maybe this dev has chosen to restrict it so it really is a perk and not just something available to the public generally.

Again, As a dev myself, I do my best to limit my discord to only supporters. I'm not a natzi about it though... the only place I post the link is behind paywalls of Patreon and Sub-star, but I also know that not every person wants to link their discord to those two services, so they may join the discord and end up with a white name bar (no discord or sub-star role) but I try to verify that my "white" discord members actually belong there and don't just bounce them like some other devs do and I don't have a "You can't join unless linked to patreon" rule. but I do actively attempt to protect my supporter's perks, Discord access being one.
Honestly I don't think that's too much to ask though since anyone can get that access for only $1 per month... and that is access not only to my work, and behind the scenes content, but also directly to me one on one if they want. And I am available to them pretty much any time since I have discord on my phone so that it is always with me. I chat with my supporters about everything from their ideas and what they like or would like to see, to spoilers minor about what I'm thinking/planning, to listening to them vent about crap going on at their work, the jerk that cut them off on the way home today, and giving them a shoulder to cry on when life turns upside down. Not all of my supporters do that, but for those who need it and have no one else, I try to be there.
And I share my shit with them too. My supporters are my online family. and I have some supporters who are on again off again. They support for a month or two and then drop out for a while and then come back, while they are not supporting they lose discord privilages, but if we have linked as individual discord friends, I never kick them from my personal friend list. Friendship shouldn't depend on financial support...
And that's pretty much my whole attitude towards discord... There's a personal side and a business side. They are seperate, but not exclusive.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, but since we're talking about Babyswithrabys and not you as a developer, really only this part of what you said is relevant to discussion about this game and communicating with this developer. No offense.
I appreciate your attitude toward it all, but we're getting off-topic when we discuss Discord as a general thing and not this dev's specific channel.
