Oh I agree. It's just that I'm surprised that Elena would choose that as her career.
That was my idea. Several reasons for this.
One, is Elena is very smart - perhaps too smart for High School which I assume she either breezed thru class or did poorly because she got bored. (She is similar to a girl my brother used to date for several years - although she was pre-law and not pre-med).
Two, as someone who can succeed easily, she would thing "what's next" in my life, and, given her moving off of serial relationships with dudes she is gravitating toward stability with F and Dee. This is reflected in the horse riding scene where she thinks about her future so intently that she does not react properly when riding and is thrown by the horse. (Btw, that thought process in that scene is a steal from the musical Oliver, song "Reviewing the Situation"
Third, it is so easy to fall upon the paths of our parents as a career when one finally has to pick a path. And having seen her dynamics with her father, she certainly feels that is he can be a doctor, then she is smart and capable enough to be a doctor.
Fourth, I wanted to give her an empowering career.
