Even without inbreeding, there is the issue with power/caretaker/trust dynamic of a parent-child relationship. Many (if not all?) states criminalize sex between a parent and a step or adopted child, many even when that child becomes an adult.
College major in history? Archeology? Bar tending with the ability to win drinking games? Monkey wrangling? Military science? Marksmanship against sword wielding opponents?
So by that logic, I assume that siblings are doing it all the time in this universe, right? There's no major power difference within the same age group and if there's no inbreeding then there's got to be a lot more incest happening between brothers and sisters openly and with parents' blessing. In that case, it's not really that incest is taboo but the difference in power like step-parent/step-child, teacher/student or boss/secretary (which is a lesser taboo in our society).
