Does anyone know how I can get rid of this weird red glow on the underside of the left arm ? Its as if the emissive light of the fireball goes right through the hand

That would depend on the asset of the fireball.
It it has a point light, you should be able to move it upwards.

I literally spent hours trying different skin shader settings and after i find one i really like and render it i am promptly reminded that chromatic SSS is still buggy after years (blue lines...).

I often have a similar error.
- Try reducing the image size.
- Decrease the Resolutin Level except for the main character.
- Run the V3Digitimes Scene Optimizer. Excluding clothing and protagonists.
- Most of the time there is a problem with your hair. It is simply too much for our machines.
If there are multiple characters in the scene I always have to touch on these tricks.
Playing around with a character design, using morphs etc to customize a character...will see where it leads
