My point was that I wouldn't blow 500-700 bucks on a not even decent pc now but rather spend a year learning all the stuff and save up at least twice that money. Because if you are building PC for rendering, unless you for some reason want to render with CPU, GPU is gonna be the most expensive part of that PC.. roughly around 40% the price of the whole thing, and that only if you are not buying two GPUs. So you now would either have a shitty PC with somewhat decent GPU, or somewhat decent PC with a shitty GPU (and that only if you are not buying a monitor and speakers and all that shit on top of that). And both of these options would get you into trouble later, when you'd realize you want to invest more and you'd then have to invest to both CPU and GPU either way and probably additional ram, or even the PSU if it didn't have enough juice and you wanted to use both your old and new GPU. Not talking about the motherboard you would buy now to save up not supporting the parts you'd want to upgrade later. So you would find yourself in this situation year or two from now: My PC is once again not good enough for what I need now, but to upgrade I need to basically change everything.

TL:DR - Don't buy shitty PC now, save up, buy a good one a year later.
*That was TL : DR obviously
I understand that, but I can't have my pc explode anytime I try to load more than 3 characters. And the Pre-render cycle is SO LONG. Like I can't be waiting 1hr to do 1 Render when I have to do 30.

This took 45mins:

You are not gonna get yourself much of an upgrade from that with 500-700 bucks PC, honestly that's a PC I'd build for a slightly more demanding office accountant.
Sad truth. :(

So a few years ago, I had planned to write a sci-fi/horror novella. Things happened and I lost any desire to write. But ideas never die and having been in lockdown for the last three months, I've had time to rethink things. I just wanted to do some quick concepts, either to see if I could respark that idea or just get those ideas out and be done with them.

Thoughts would be helpful.
Looks good enough to start! It's hard to say a lot from single renders.
Protagonists, so we're supposed to cheer for them - is sinister the way to go, then? I don't know what I'm supposed to feel for the guy. Maybe less angry , and more weary if he needs to be sympathetic. (It's hard to say with limited facial details to go on.)

Is the secondary protag supposed to be military? Her hair is totally not regulation. Can't be wispies like that (where an opponent would be able to grab in close quarters combat).
Otherwise, she's got a good look to her.

I'd be more interested in her story, heh heh. :)

Your main problem with that would be (apart from those ugly ass rainbow fans lol) a 4gb memory GPU. I got 8 gb and sometimes I barely fit 5 characters into scene without reducing textures in the scene and all that jazz. Also it has 1280 cuda cores, those are the ones daz uses for iray rendering. I don't know how many is that in that specific price range, you might wanna research that. But obviously the more, the better, the faster the renders will be.

So try to look for PC in that price range with a GPU that has at least 6gb memory and if possible more CUDA cores.

what are you looking at? 1280 cuda? 4gb? This has:

"Game to your full potential with this iBUYPOWER gaming desktop computer. The Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM multitask smoothly, while the 1TB HDD and a 240GB SSD offer ample file storage space and rapid booting. This iBUYPOWER gaming desktop computer has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER graphics card to render detailed visuals for total immersion in your favorite RPG or FPS titles, and the air cooling system keeps components running at optimal temperatures."

^Description^

and yeah, the Rainbow is FUGLY AF. But shit could be neon pink for all I care. I just need to to work.

It won't have those specs in the description, you want to look up specs of the graphic cards and find how many CUDA cores and how big memory it has. This one has 4gb and 1280 cuda cores.
So what you wanna do is look at other PCs in that price range, take the graphic card, search it in google and look at the specifications and look for CUDA cores and GPU memory there.

Firstly, thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it.

Protagonists, so we're supposed to cheer for them - is sinister the way to go, then?

To answer your above questions, the male protagonist would have been forced to work for an organisation that did have good intentions, but chose to do things in a secretive manner, i.e. kill people who need killing. And he had to work for them because it was better than the alternative of a bullet to the head.

As for the hair of the female protagonist, she would have been a junior engineering officer on a civilian medical ship, so not military.

Again, thanks.

So I decided to make another custom character. One that hopefully won't see me end in jail. !!! :D :D Was totally not thinking. I keep downloading stuff, and then playing around with it. Everything is new. Lesson learned, and I'm grateful it was on here and not in a room full of my peers!! ha ha ha.... Meet Dani!!!

I suggest not buying a new pc for $600. The point is if you buy a weak PC you will regret it later. Just like Empiric said, it's better to learn more. Fenella works on CPU and does great renders. You can do it too. Keep experimenting for a while. Try 3delight render. Or render in Interactive mode. Render Environment separately then Models. Try heavy post-work and a good amount of denoiser. There is struggle this way but if you spend $600 now for a very mediocre pc, you will regret it really bad later and nobody can tell how good that $600 will be compared to what you have. it's risky.

My wild guess on the price range for a decent rig is 1.5k-4k USD. I am drooling at the idea of RTX 3080(Dreaming) and Unreal engine 5. Just a personal take.
I kinda understood like half of what you wrote. I'm kind of computer illiterate. I just know how to pose models and hit render. I just want it to work and not be slow when I move the camera or slow everything down when I move from Texture shaded to N-Iray. 1-2 Models and I'm fine,3+ and it just "Not Responding".

If your only goal is to make games then another idea is to learn drawing. 3 years ago I read a couple of books on anatomy and anime drawing and the results weren't bad. 2d Games are also somewhat in demand here. Summertime Saga is at top right now.

well, I guess I have an excuse to show my art here. hohoho.

I know Daz Thread. Make an exception and it's only to make a point.

Edit: Damn I opened the link and that $700 PC looks good.
Im not interested in 2d art. I want to learn 3d art so I can eventually go to school for Animation. One day when I'm 60yrs old I want to be avengers level good.

What do you guys think of this? These each took 30-45mins to render to 100%. I think they look Meh.

I just set up the models and Rendered with Denioser on.

Not a bad start, honestly would look into this post here https://f95zone.to/threads/three-point-light-setup-for-better-lighting.47641/

First time I looked through the post I overlooked the height and width setting of spotlights and regret that now. it can change the images dramatically (softer shadows), some examples:

Definitely learned something new today, and hopefully tomorrows renders end up even better now.

This one is mostly straight out of Daz. 3000 iterations with denoiser kicking in at 2000. Took around 3 hours. I probably could have stopped it sooner but I was pre-occupied so I let it cook. I did a little post on this to scale it down from 4K and to make the jewelry and fireplace pop a little more.

A very nice character and impressive art. If only I had the money for it I could have used it in-game. Where are the tails from?
The cat one is from the catgirl pack and the black one is actually free one you can grab it here:

I have that black tail but I couldn't figure out how to make it work. Posing wasn't working at all. The tail was straight and morphs didn't move it. The universal tool couldn't move it either. How to use it?
Easy. Load the tail, right click it, select parent to, parent it to character's hip. Then you might wanna set in the "style and poses" of the tail to preview render on so you can see it and you can pose it however you want.
