As of this post it's at 56 sub with $641 per month. So it's been about three days and it seem that they've nearly quintupled their income. They might do fine. I didn't even know they had a SS. They have yet to update the links on their blogspot or their pinned tweet. Fortunately I didn't have to scroll down to far on their timeline to find a link.

Their should probably update their stuff. Some of us will be out of the loop because we don't use cancer-website.
I'm wondering how many people will cancel their subscriptions but just haven't heard the news yet. Their patreon still has 420 patrons.

Like Netflix subscriptions, a lot of people tend to just forget about what they're patrons of. Sometimes it can be due to not checking to site or simply not reading every single update from all their subscriptions on the site, and only focusing on other games. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of their patrons simply didn't get the memo yet. In all likelihood, a good portion of their subs may not have kept up with them enough to know how bad their track history is, and how much of a kick to the teeth this news is.

Not really, since for the most part it'd just be a few dollars per patreon supported on a credit or debit account. At least in America, things like that basically never factor into taxes since they don't count as charitable donations and even if they did, the amounts are too small to affect anything. (I assume that you were thinking that they would count as donations on taxes at least)

well i just feel bad there those who forget because there giveing money to people who are not using it for what they say they are. i would say the only thing that makes me very sad is the artist is getting a bad deal from them because the art is great and lookes really good.

I'm amused to think that you all know you better than Wolf and Cres, or that they're done or whatever. They're just moving over to Subscriptionstar. Yes, Deathblight will be discontinued. The webcomic, however, will be finished, and they'll make new projects, smaller and better managed. Honestly, how many of you have ever even attempted to do something like this, hm? Stop being hypocrites.

You know, you can just ask him. The discord is publicly open and most questions are answered within a few days by Wolf.

So, you're using the extremely common "you can't criticize something without trying to do it yourself fallacy". It's not hypocritical to criticize something for being poorly done, even if you've not done the same thing yourself. Anyone can look at a piece of art and criticize it, same with a game or a movie. And yes, even project development can be criticized.

Yeah, most people haven't done this type of project. But when you look and compare the progress and amount of payments to different projects or developers you can criticize the fact that one of them is extremely slow, lacks communication, or lacks quality content.

In this case, there's been relatively little communication on the game (on a month by month basis, which the patreon paid them on) and slow progress seen from the outside. And yeah, if most of your paid support is for project A, but your passion is project B people will be pissed if you cancel project A.

As for future projects being smaller and better managed, there's no way to say that now. You can only say that after 2-3 more smaller projects they do in the future have been better managed. People say things like that all the time for a patreon (or similar campaign) they like and are suffering optimism and sunk cost fallacy on. "The developer promised to do better and they did for 1 update, so it's great now." No, you need to see them hold that up for multiple updates / milestones / projects to see if they managed to improve for real or as a one off fluke. Again I don't need to have managed a project myself to be able to look at how someone has done on their own, and compare them against their own projects and promises.

So we're suddenly not allowed to criticize them on starting multiple projects at once and dropping them willy nilly? What does this have to do with someone thinking they know more than Wolf and Cres? Here's a hint: it doesn't. The way you phrased that makes it sound like you're holding them on some kind of pedestal just for being game indie developers.

The webcomic, however, will be finished, and they'll make new projects, smaller and better managed.
Great... Just what we needed, them starting a whole bunch of other projects that they can't finish... You're so bias that you can't even realize what people have been saying their biggest problem is. They should stick to one project they can finish and focus on that. We don't need them going dark on a game and then coming out a year later announcing that they're gonna work on a second one simultaneously, only to do the exact same thing with a third game announcement.

Honestly, how many of you have ever even attempted to do something like this, hm? Stop being hypocrites.
This is a shit argument. You can honestly fuck right off with this. You don't need to be a game developer to know someone is doing something stupid, or to critic the product. This is seriously kindergarten levels of excuses. There are hundreds of indie porn game developers who haven't made the dumb decision of trying to work on three different games at the same time like they have. They're extremely slow with updates, they rarely update people with what they're doing to begin with, the rare times they do give an update it hasa chance of it being about them announcing another new game, etc.

Also, you should go revise the definition on what the word "hypocrite" means. Nobody is doing anything here that makes them a hypocrite.

Man that "Never gonna sell this game for money directly, we made a promise" mentality must be one of the most naive reasons to abandon a project I've ever heard of. I'm sure fans would've been understanding if they explained the current economic situation regarding the game and the need for funding. (But there's also the blew $40k on marketing fiasco)

But at the same time, selling the game for a final price establishes a certain level of expectations which they were probably not prepared to meet. They probably never intended for this to be more than a casual side project to boost the popularity of their main IP. A lot can happen in 3+ years. It's also possible that they have other things going in life that weren't there when they started working on this game.

I will always remember Deathblight as the RPG that got me into RPGM games and this corner of the internet. I had seen Crescentia's work in the past, but I've never been a fan of the body types in her art. That was until I played this game and for some reason my tastes have changed. (I am a big fan of Ferania in particular, don't really care about the other ones)

This genre became my favorite and it was thanks to this game that I discovered the likes of Ahriman and other creators. After experiencing those works I always wondered what Deathblight RPG had the potential to become. I was intrigued by the idea of a corruption system, but wasn't a fan of the way it was implemented. Would've really liked to see more combat mechanics, enemy types, h-attacks, new standing picture artwork for the characters.

They also happened to be the first creator I ever supported on Patreon. But I am a transactional supporter. I pledge for a month, get the latest version of the game, then interrupt my support until another update comes out. There are probably many others like me out there who were ready to support the game if development and release of new content followed a healthy pace.

It saddens me to see this game abandoned. It had the best artwork of all the games in its genre (to my knowledge)
Perhaps one day a creator could pick it up and work with them in a partnership. Like a license to use the Deathblight IP and have Crescentia provide the artwork (similar to a commission) , but hosted as a separate project on the developer support platform (Patreon/Subscribestar/Ci-en/etc). That would take some weight off of Wolf and Cres' shoulders and allow them to allocate more time to the kind of content they enjoy producing.

My post history on this or other websites will probably reveal me as one of the harshest critics of this game, but that's only because this was one of the few games I truly cared about...

Why are people saying the game is abandoned? We got a progress update in September and there should be more info this month according to that post last month

You clearly haven't been keeping up with recent developments.

Hello folks!

Patreon requires us to remove content that is in violation with their community guidelines and of course we will follow suit and remove said content.
There was a lot back and forth and apparently several misconceptions about the content we offer, so it took a while to sort things out and figure out the scope of the changes that had to be made.
The following is a rough summary.

Deathblight RPG - Operation Thunderfang:

Despite the non-consensual content in the game, we always believed our game content falls under "survivor stories" and thus, according to Patreon's community guidelines, it would be okay.
But apparently this is not the case and we are required to take the game down from Patreon.

As it is a free game, the latest build will be made available on the blog for free as usual.
There will be no further progress made on the game due to the lack of funding, as we stick to our promise of never selling this game and thus it makes no sense to put our own money into it when we can't sell it, it was a purely Patreon funded project after all.
We will however release the Catheline Job update sometime in the future on the blog for free, as all the graphics for this one had already been completed, and it would be a waste to not release it, even if it takes additional time, I (Wolfenstahl) will work on it during my free time.
We sincerely apologize for these additional delays, the last couple months have been truly wild and this is just another bad news for us in 2020 that keeps bogging us down, but we will push the long awaited update out eventually.
Past this there will be no further updates though.

Monthly speedpaints:

There will also be changes in regards to our speedpaints.
Since some of them are not 100% clearly consensual and due to the nature of a single artwork lacking context and thus being debateable, we will basically remove almost all NSFW speedpaints from Patreon as well, so we are surely on the safe side.
It is simply too subjective and unpredictable for us as what kind of NSFW artworks are okay and which ones are in violation, as for example BDSM or rough sex can be viewed as "non-consensual", and there is no truly safe way to be on the safe side but removing this content entirely.
Patreon did not ask us to remove all the NSFW content, but due to us being unable to clearly identify which ones are in violation or not, we decided it is safer to remove most of it to be on the safe side.
After all, we do not wish to get into trouble, and we do not wish to get Patreon into trouble either.

The future:

We will rework our Patreon page completely in the next couple days to reflect these changes.
Furthermore we will be offering the Deathblight webcomic plus a new SFW webcomic which will be both funded via this Patreon campaign.

Speedpaints will most likely become SFW or "ecchi" (nude/sexy) only.
But there will be no full on sex to avoid any sort of potential trouble.
We understand that people will be upset about this and we sincerely apologize for this, but please understand that we merely want to stay on the safe side and we believe this is the only way to guarantee it.

We are thinking about potentially handing out SFW versions of our future games as loyality bonus on Patreon as well.
This is however not a main reward and really something you shouldn't pledge to us for, as our games will also be sold on platforms like Steam, as usual, where you can pick them up at a cheaper price.
So please only support us if you wish to support us for other reasons, or if you like to support us because you love our characters and stories, or simply want to support us as people (by us I mean: Cres and Wolf).

Outside of Patreon we will still do NSFW games since we are traditionally a self funded hentai game developer.
(since 2012, years before Patreon existed)
You will be able to pick these games up on DLSite or other storefronts as usual.

A Subscribestar campaign will also be upcoming for folks who want to pledge to us for lewd speedpaints without restrictions.
So you can get your usual content over there.
This content will NOT be made available to supporters on Patreon due to us separating these things.
So you have to go over to Subscribestar to be eligible for it.
Here is the link to the campaign that is currently being set up, it's not done yet, but keep an eye on this one:

Finally let me say:
We understand that Patreon needs to enforce these changes in order to not get into trouble with payment providers, so we will of course follow through with the necessary steps.

We apologize to everyone who is disappointed by this turn of events, but unfortunately things are as they are.
Since these changes happen all of a sudden, we need a couple days to set everything in motion and also announce the new webcomic.
After all, every end is also the start of something new.

Keep an eye out for these changes and announcements, and we hope that most of you stay on board with us.
We are very thankful for your support all these years, but we can perfectly understand if some of you are leaving because of these drastic changes.
It is perfectly understandable if you don't want to support us any longer, and as always, please think of yourself first and foremost.
We can only hope that you check out our future content if you come across it, and perhaps there's something you enjoy among it.
At any rate, thank you very much.
We love all of you!

Sincerely,

Wolfenstahl & Crescentia

P.S:
We are currently waiting for permission to make the correspondence we had with Patreon available to you, and will upload it in full once we heard back from Patreon.
Since we believe that transparency and honesty are the most important things, we feel it is only right if you get insight into this, as well as understand that Patreon is not "the bad guy" here.
They simply have to do what they are required to do by payment processors in order to stay in business, even if the process itself is a bit clunky and could need a bit of refinement.
Please be understanding of this, thank you very much.
Hope this answers your questions.
