I get that times are casual now, and even text-based games have become difficult.
But Bailey is just a character who extorts money, like some games on Patreon. They'll keep milking it until the very end, so why let them go?
Hypnosis and slimes are truly infuriating. )
I like to play as the developer intended. To have players choose different paths.
The main thing is that she doesn't become cozy-easy.

Baileys a joke. When a payday rolls around, its not hard to consistently humiliate him and his goons to the laughs and jeers of the other kids. Week after week, Bailey gets knocked on his ass and is reduced to shouting next time orphan pc NEXXXTTT TTIMMMEEE! like a cartoon villain.

Once pc has made clear that Bailey cant touch them or force them to anything they don't want to there shouldn't be anything stopping them from barging into Baileys office challenging him to a duel then snatching the mystical papers from their unconscious sprawled out body and then marking their property.

For the talk that dol is an oppresive darksouls game where misery and loss are the standard I think its a budding power fantasty. Get sent to the Farm? Back for lunch. Underground brotherl? Laugh in S-skulldiggery. Bailey? Pepper sprays. Prison? That's a nice generator you got there shame if something happened to it.

There should be actual consequences for defying Bailey for a month straight. Like selling Robin for a week and Bailey mentioning that she has to pull double duty since someone couldn't be assed to pay up. As is, Bailey isn't oppresive only a rountine annoyance that takes sixty seconds to deal with.

Robin gets the short end if you choose to protect them and don't pay up. And regarding the difficulty, the sentiment I've seen is that the game used to be a lot harder than it is now. I do get what you're saying about what you can achieve and what you're allowed to do not quite aligning, but it's clear removing Bailey's grip on you isn't something that's gonna happen. A degree of hopelessness has been lifted from the feeling of the game and it doesn't match how you're supposed to feel in the game.

Bailey is definately the villian here, but one of his role is often overlooked.
He protects what belongs to him. MC and the orphans belongs to him.
Sure he sells them to other people for money, but there are times where he will kick intruders that had barged into the orphanage.
His connections with the rich and powerful like the mayor and Avery keeps the kids safe from other predators.
In this game, good guys are very rare, the best you can hope for is a neutral NPC who would offer aid when you give something in return.
To increase a sense of hopelessness, maybe you can increase the amount you have to pay to Bailey, so much so that you always fail and be sold by him to various customers and watch you friend Robin, one of the only good NPC in the game suffers with you.

So in short Bailey will let random fucked up things happen to innocent people only for proper payment. Thought of my sufferinng being beneficial to my tormentor is quite reassuring indeed, even though I'd rather not be raped and tortured at all. It really hurts my daily schedule and private life, you know

Once you get your skill up and know where the money is, you can easily pay him weekly including Robin's share and be free to do whatever you want.
If you want to do more than that, take a look at DOL plus.

Missed the fine print when signing up for the trip to Rapechester, eh?
I get that this is a major point about the game, but it's also the major thing that pushes me away from DoL. And, frankly, I have a hard time even understanding the reasoning.

An opressive world where you are really struggling, that's all fair and well, by why not offer a silver lining at the end. It's human nature, that's why happy endings where the norm in Hollywood for the longest time.

Humans (men especially) are also problem solvers. And that's why players generally find ways to deal wirh what the game throws at them. Like others remarked, it's not that hard to progress to a point where Bailey is easily paid off. It's more difficult (but also possible) when you also have to shoulder Robins bill, which is why I just ignored his suffering in my last playthroughs.

When the player has found a way to deal with the oppressiveness, they no longer are oppressive but merely annoying. It's like a missing endgame. Getting rid of all that crap should be the end goal, you get some ending closure like in Fallout and ride into the sunset, done, time for another round.

As it stands, my playthroughs just kinda fizzle out with a giant "fuck that shit".
Maybe I'm weird.

All love interests, prostitution, occasional exhibitionism-related encounters and plenty of occasions to slut around at high promiscuity.

IMO This game really needs to Hyperfocus on finishing the Main Story first before adding all the side stuff, so they can have a general outline as to where events can branch out of like for example: the Church Nun/Priest vs Kylar´s whatever was that cult that made his/her parents into monsters. and so on and so forth... instead of adding whatever every few months. :0

PD: still waiting for a Nurse Job or the streamer one, really i just want more jobs in this game, or even being able to Open stall at the beach so Robin can have some competition besides that dude that sells popcorn at least xD.

+1 to hoping for an eventual good ending. Would love to finally be able to send all the main "baddies" to the underworld and ride off into the sunset with Robin.

Does Vrelnir even remember what he wanted the game to be like? I, for one, don't remember what I watched yesterday. xD

I mean there is no "main" story. Its just a sandbox with some lore sprinkled around in its multiple side plots.
I don’t even think you can get all the lore without going completely hoe depraved since some bits are locked behind separate RO’s storylines. I could be wrong but with the structure of reaching there you gotta harem to get to all of it

Aye. The game is, in part, a response to the deteriorating state of the world, and the UK in particular, so it's hard to avoid reminders. To forget would be to go mad.
Okay, but so are hollywood movies with happy ends - responses to the detiorating state of the world. In the confines of the movie, things CAN be made right, there CAN be a happy ending.
I believe escapism is the word for this.

Otherwise, you'd better hurry up and implement grooming gangs.
