Oh gosh... Joint Ops' AI was insane with seeing you through foliage from a mile away. Ex-America's Army player from v1.1.1 to 2.8.5 here. Stopped when v3 came out. I miss classic Bridge Crossing.
I loved joint ops due to their tropic islands and lots of beautiful tropical water and helicopter assaults. Plus, some of the biggest PvP battles I've been part of, aside from private Arma 2/3 communities. Not sure, but I *think* there's still people who play it. It's on Steam at least.

Bridge Crossing was insanely fun! Plus that Refinery map or whatever it was that you had to open valves. On both maps I once got my hands on an RPD and managed to annihilate a 4-6 man groups of enemy soldiers that had no situational awareness. Only once per each map tho. Good times. Plus the fact that I was so young back then.

I once looked forward to every update of this game.

Now I couldn't give less of a shit.

And it's all due to the dev's decisions of prioritising DRM over content.

I never heard of Delta Force. Sounds rough. I once played Pitfall on Atari and my brother convinced me to play it from beginning to end without taking any hits. Something about the developers of the game would be impressed or something and maybe offer a reward. Thats the extent of my hardcore gaming days.
Ever played the original Alien vs Predator from early 2000s? It had reasonably big maps where you couldn't save, nor heal. You were along, in the dark, with only the pinging of the movement detector as your companion.

And the first meeting an alien was very memorable, plus WAAAAAAAAAAAY too close to a huge drop, :ROFLMAO: One of the most nerve-wrecking games I ever played.

I heard of the game but I didn't have any time to play much at that time. I missed a lot of content around that time. But I picked up Mass Effect when it came out and suddenly I had an anchor in gaming.

Played AVP 1, AVP 2, AVP 3 (technically AVP 2010), ACM (hated every moment of it) and Alien Trilogy.

You could heal, you just needed medkits in AVP1/2. However it still paid off to bumrush the levels instead of exploring, as a general rule. Especially for AVP1.

You also had AI with wallhacks that would pre-fire an RPG at you before you even turned a corner, so it would hit and kill you the instant you appeared. All of this from ranges of over 200m. Otoh, sometimes if you rushed them around the corner you could stand 0.5 in front of them and they would crouch and be looking around frantically and not see you.... Btw., hats off to you, sir, for knowing that venerable game! There were also other in that series and using that engine (which was pretty unique cause it didn't use polygons like all other games).
Btw., ever played Joint Operations online? I absolutely freaking LOVED that game, was actually one of the games that got me into online gaming, together with America's Army.
Oh yes, that does sound familiar. That's why you sneak up on them from 500 meters away and headshot them. Bit hard at that distance, but safer than getting closer to them. Lots of enemies were extremely dangerous at close range, so the game taught you to take your time, line up your shot and have an exit strategy for when things went tits up. Which it often did.

But yeah, they'd almost have to have wallhacks, because that game only had like 32, maybe 64 megabytes of RAM to work with, so some concessions had to be made with processing their AI, especially on such a huge map.

Haven't heard of joint operations.

Only game I remember playing on the Atari was Adventure, and it was HARD.

Does this game even work on Win 7? I remember I had some issues with it on Win 10 when I wasn't running the latest version.

Also, any place to still get v16?

I looked into it. There is only 1 report of freezing without errors and it seems to be a local issue since the person was also getting freezing in other UE games. Its likely related to DirectX, but without any error codes or log, you'll need to do some ruling out. The other freeze errors with logs cannot be fixed by the dev because they are related to the unreal engine itself and local machine issues.

What I'm stuck with, is terrible performance with 18.1. v17 ran really well and I narrowed it down to the new illumination feature he added, but that doesn't explain why the in game text looks...kinda blurry? My only guess is that i have a 1080ti instead of an RTX card, but everyone else seems to be praising the new performance and optimization, feels like a step backwards from my perspective.

I haven't played the game yet, I've been only following this thread so far. I saw this post and wanted to say blurry text is usually caused by anti aliasing and resolution scaling. Turn off anti aliasing and resolution scaling settings, make sure to play the game at your screen's native resolution and see if it helps. Your graphics card doesn't support DLSS but probably supports FSR and frame generation so if they were added to the game it is only natural for people to be praising performance boost. Keep in mind these are all just theories since I haven't played the game yet.

Thx for the answer

I tried this version and it still happened, though I was able to play for ~2 hours, which I couldn't do since v14. The only thing that changed on my end is that I reset windows last night and installed the software (directX, .net, etc...) today, which could be it.

Delete the D3D12 folder, it almost always helps when the game freezes or crashes without errors. Located \DeltaZone\Binaries\Win64

I don't remember which version it was when Win 7 started to become unsupported due to an underlying requirement in the Unreal Engine which doesn't support Win 7. I have a Win 7 rig I can power up later if you're curious, but Win 8.1 I think is the minimum requirement now, with Win 10 being the preferred platform.

v16 link is still available here:

Win 8.1, like I got, can't detect the server, at least that was the case in V17. So it might now be minimum Win 10.
