@edgedy This is great feedback thank you. Its probably to far down the path at this point to change anything drastic in the beginning with the corridor but for the other aspects the MC will get more confident as it goes on, he is a bit broken at first. In 0.4 I hope that will start to be made more clear. He needed a purpose again in life and this entire situation is giving him that.

About giving some monologues and talking about the City itself. This I really like. Maybe mistakingly in my brain when starting it I was thinking of Blade Runner the Final Cut sans dialogue.. But that is a movie this is more of a book, some more interesting monologues would go a long way.

@Thornhill I appreciate the word of mouth. I'll say though I am a fan of T4boo's game and even support him. :p

Oh yeah 0.4 will be out next week, 2 scenes left to render and just a few left to code. Then its just testing and adjusting for balance.
Funny that you're a Babysitter fan. Folks were really pissed at his latest, and when i plugged your game, some folks were like "WOW ! What a game ! Really glad he mentioned it ! " Babysitter was my nº3 until 0.6. Then YOUR game replaced it, when your 0.3 came out. After Babysitter 0.7, that game is on my "to be deleted soon " list. But don't worry, i'm not trashing a Dev to elevate another. Just saying to folks looking for stuff, "hey, you might wanna try this, it's really good ".

I haven't actually had a chance to play the last few versions of his game actually. Hopefully he gets things back on track.

And don't worry I know you are being civil, its awesome that people are putting the game out there. Thank you.

But on a more serious note i'm only number 3!! BAH. With 0.4 I better bump up to number 2 lol.

That's the spirit ! Regarding Babysitter, i thought i was dl a slow burn game, so there would be time to get to know the characters, but the Dev botched it , imo. The plot is advancing so slow, it's reaching DMD levels of boredom, and him pulling the "oh, it was just a dream " gimmick twice in just six updates , tells you he can't make the story advance enough for stuff happening naturally. Don't know if you scrolled through that thread recently, it was a relentless pouring of criticism. And deservedly so. About my "faved list ", you're in good company, Parental Love and My Sweet Neighbors, but since those Devs already have a big following, and your game is really that good, i've taken to suggesting it, when i can .

So the female character storylines are top notch, you either care about them or you hate them. But yeah the MC is the only shortcoming I'd say so far. Obviously going to have to punch that asshole cop in the future.

Oh shit i have a tiny dream sequence! lol. I made it obvious to the player though, it goes black and white. That was something when i played that game that irked me because it tricks you. I wanted the player know, or at least have a good idea what was happening. Also some input here would be nice because I am not sure if I am going about it right. I made it so there is basically a 4 in 7 chance of it happening(sounds weird i know but its based on menu choices at that time, 4 menu options, so a 4 or lower means 1-4 menu choices could fire the dream) but that chance goes up with each point of depravity you have (3 dep would make a random number between 1 and 4 instead of 1 and 7 meaning it has to be one of the menu choices since you can go back and choose the other menu items it is guaranteed if u have max dep and select each menu item. Damn that was confusing and damn why did I bother with paranthesis) .

Thanks edgedy this is something I can be noteful of in the future is to make the MC more confident. There is one piece of dialogue in the new version already I could change. It would make sense for the MC to start to hit his stride by then as well so the change would work. I have had another person mention the same deal to me as well. Please let me know after 0.4 what you think. Then I can reevaluate.

Yeah, but that dream sequence didn't felt as filler. And everybody saw it was a dream, like you said, it was black and white. So, no notes for you ! Anyway, , i'm getting a Raymond Chandler vibe, out of the game, and i love it ! The downrotten private eye, the dangerous-good woman , the shady cops, all i'm missing is Bogart narrating it ! You got some serious "The Maltese Falcon " - the porn version going on ! Can't wait for 0.4 !!

I second this. As someone who likes film noir and hard-boiled detective stories, DA really hits the spot. If I had the skill, this would be the sort of adult game I'd like to make.

@Philly_Games I don't really have a problem with the MC lacking confidence at this point. It might bother me later on though. I would maybe make him more rougher around the edges. More gruff. But that's just the type of character I like, it might not suit what you want for the character.

Ooh, am I going to be a happy camper in the next update? :)

Also I'm ok with the MC still needing to work up the confidence. What did annoy me a little was that this grizzled old ex-cop got sucker punched by that douche-cop in charge. I like the idea of him being a rough ex-cop that may not be up to speed, but he'll floor you in a good ol' fist fight.

It is a fine line to tread. For a story, you need a character with a full personality - grizzled/passive/cynical/whatever. For games, a cipher works better, as the player can ascribe whatever they want on to the MC. Do it right and you get CJ from GTA SA. Do it wrong and you get every juvenile MC dreamed up by Russian developers.

I agree the media res opening in the hallway was odd. If the end ties in somehow, that would peachy, though.

If the MC is clear about his work, it does not bother me that sometimes he has to "give in" as he did with the detective. A good investigator must know when to be tough and when to get things in other ways.

Just letting you guys know I just finished the last line of code on 0.4. My video card is thanking me right now and i'm drinking a beer. Cause damn :p

Tomorrow I am bug testing then the day after I am launching to my True Detective patrons.

I am really really happy with this one. Its a big one. Bigger than I expected, hopefully it doesn't set a false precedent for what to expect in the future.

The wait is soon over.
