I get these all the time. Sometimes you can right-click and select Open and that works.

If not, put the game in your application folder, open Terminal, and paste:

xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/[app_name].app

...then hit enter. don't forget to change the app name

For most of them, it's either a hobby or a passion project on which they work when they have free time to. So, updates come when they come, and in those cases it's pretty unusual to see monthly updates.
Especially when there is a pandemic going on.
