Man, developing the game backwards (at least so far) is not it. It's a problem trying to make your first game a magnum opus, there's constant temptation for iteration all the time as your familiarity with the process gets better. Unless you're absolutely driven and disciplined, it just leaves the door open for burnout.
Seems safer to use the first game as a fast-moving experiment, and lock in on the 2nd once you're confident about the process and can plan the project from scratch. With the whole Patreon system, you're not going to turn patrons off by not being perfect the first time around. Most of them would probably prefer quicker turnaround and forward movement anyway.
