A shitty mtl is like a fast food burger. It satisfies my cravings, but it's not that great in the long run.

A good manual translation is like a nice dry-aged steak. Fantastically delicious, but I know I can't afford it most of the time.

Both have their places, and I appreciate both, but they really shouldn't be compared or considered replacements for the other.

but a simple translation is still too much
Oh dear sweet summer child.

"Let's give these two interns a summer project- oh, let's have them use an AI to tell the difference between these two animals!" years and a half a billion dollars later, we can almost do it sometimes.

Since many people are concerned regarding this I wanted to take a few moments now that I am home to discuss my future plans for the manual translation of Desire Eater.

After thinking on it I want to continue working on this at least for now. When I get back into it I may find that I am no longer motivated to continue and if that happens then it is what it is. At least you all get something and the game is playable (I haven't bothered to try out this MTL btw)

I don't want to derail this thread anymore then I have by chiming in and I also ask that people refrain from giving Mirgosoft a hard time about his decision to create an MTL. Shit happens, with translations this happens all the time and it sucks when it does but I'll continue working on this in my free time. Hopefully I can put out something that is worth the encouragement many of you have given in asking me to continue. I am probably going to check my work via the updates in 2.0 and may or maynot have to rework some parts I already did but I'll get there eventually, especially after I finish my primary project.

That is all I wanted to say, TLDR: Manual translation will continue, don't have an ETA as I want to update my work to 2.0 and may have to change somethings.

Some games have too much text and will never achieve a quality manual translation.
Take a game "The Pregcess of Zeven" as an example.
Even serious companies will never translate such a game, even though it has a good storyline and a lot of scenes.
Therefore, those who want to wait for a normal translation, they can do it (maybe endlessly). That's all.
Last time I checked The Princess of Zeven WAS being translated by Kagura

I wonder when and if MTLs will ever be good... I mean wouldn't it be possible to use some sort of AI to translate japanese to english in a way where it would actually rival true translations? You can't tell me this ain't possible when we can deepfake faces onto anything and everyone nowadays but a simple translation is still too much?
Japanese, the last I saw manga scanlators talk about it, is a very "high context" language. Not particularly helped by only too many of its written symbols having very different readings and/or meanings depending on the specific context.

Which pretty much hopelessly derails algorithms right out of the gate. You'd pretty much need an actual "strong" AI that can work with natural language and we're way the fuck off from that. (Plus at that point you'd effectively have a person doing manual translation anyway, just a digital one.)

Is there a way to do a virgin run? I got to ~75% lust or whatever but everything beyond that seems to involve vaginal sex.

I remember this being posted before but untranslated and so it got taken off, I did download it before but in the end could barely play it, so don't complain about MTL, better than nothing.

This.

I've hinted at this before, but if you've played games completely untranslated before, then MTL feels like a massive step forward. I get that for many on this forum, they may be younger so don't have experience with playing untranslated games, or just deal with translated games here so simply don't know any better, but it used to be that ANY translations were incredibly rare, outside of some company's VNs. MTL programs came out, and it took a bit of work to set them up, but it was so nice when they worked well. I don't think translations that actually break the game are helping, but if the game is playable, then please take a moment to consider the alternative.

Or you could use something like textractor and hook like 98% of all these games to get a MTL that for whatever reason seems to be better than what most of these MTL releases have, takes about 5 seconds to do.

1. Start game
2. Start textractor
3. Press "attach to game" button
4. Select game in a drop down list and press "ok"
5. Play game

Instead we get MTL releases that more often than not cant even be played because the MTL is horrible, someone has to fix word wrapping and even game breaking bugs caused by the MTL butchering not only the language text but also some parts of event code and even then after all that extra effort and work by people the actual text is often so broken you might as well be looking at porn pics while reading some text written by a deranged AI that was trained on Harry Potter smut fanfics and the Discovery Channel.

As if that was not bad enough it also discourages proper translations of the games since I cant imagine its a good motivation to know that a lot of people who would be playing your translation have already played the game and wont play it again even if it was a MTL they played first since it seems a lot of people dont play these games for the amazing plot and having seen most/all events usually means the game is 'done' for them.

Its also irritating to see them here in the forum tbh and I would filter them out if given the option.

TL;DR
REEEEEEEEEEEEE!
MTL should only be allowed for games that are hard/impossible to hook or are heavily edited so its actually close to a proper translation and you can make sense of the text, what is the point of a MTL if you still dont understand what is going on?

This game had been uploaded before and it was unreadable. Doubt it has been approved. ;v;

Ahh for fuck sake! Admins seriously, I think at this point we NEED a MTL prefix for threads or a whole section dedicated to them. Seeing that Silentce might be discouraged to continue his manual translation after another MTL is shat out and posted here actually annoys me more than it probably should. I always see him fixing these shitty MTL posts with word wrap and other errors that the original "translators" didn't even bother to look at. I know I might be taking this to far but it's fucking frustrating coming to this forum only to see MTL taking up the majority of the "completed" games.
