That is not a typo That is just me getting confused when working around Ren'Py horrendous GUI (I mean using text since it has more style possibilities and better antialiasing).
Anyway, I already made a fix this morning, it will be release with the v0.40.2, probably tonight.

I wouldn't recommend playing on the v0.40.1, if you train Frankie once it softlocks.

Until you get the v0.40.2 but totally legitimate means, I guess you can temporary resolve the softlock by using this command:
Then not training Frankie nor putting any girl at work at the stripclub should prevent the softlock. Most of the stuff to pay costs less than 3 so only teaching should be enough until late game items.
And you can always, give yourself some more income to buy 2+ items :

I was super stoked to see a new update...then my saves didn't work and the rework feels even more grindy then before.

Well, that is why it is important to try it and give us feedback.
We cannot tweak that kind of thing without good data.
See your use of "feel" does seem appropriate.
When it comes to the income system, every object that was there before cost much less than before (in term of time you need to spend to get the money or income)
There is more things to get though, so that does complicate the number of actions needed.
Now the balancing and tweaking act can commence.
Once the game seem stable enough we will post a poll to gather your feedback.

My review (should probably be 2.5 stars but I'm conflicted):
Frankly, I can't give a better than average rating to any Ren'Py game without halfway decent animation. As I like to say, "The Age of Playboy is over. Now is the time of Pornhub!" Still images as a payoff for grinding is a travesty in this day and age. It's nearly 2020 fachrissake!
There is definitely a lack of polish here. Even some purportedly new, self-taught devs have done it better. The UI leaves something to be desired and you are thrown up against random characters with no real introduction or story driven motivation. That's...not great.
The reasons for any positive rating at all is the availability of easy cheats, the fact that I find some of the art charming, and the fact that I LOVE ME SOME BIMBOS! The easily obtained (by cheating) day 2 sex scenes actually increase my disappointment. I can't help but think how AWESOME it would be if I could have those scenes with even middle-of-the-road animation.
I really had to give some thought to giving this an average rating. Honestly, it probably deserves less. For those who are into bimbofication and don't mind the still images of a dying age, go for it, with cheats. It isn't worth a grind. For all others, probably better off giving this a pass.
PS, I really am conflicted. The game has an indefinable charm and I did play it for a bit when II would usually delete as soon as I realized I downloaded a non-animated 3dcg game. I do intend to continue playing and unlock a lot more content. But I doubt I'll be back for future updates unless I'm super hard up.
